1 in 136 Americans is behind bars... *Pic*
1 in 136 Americans is behind bars
Government report says the increase is due, in part, to the rising number of unconvicted inmates. By Elizabeth White The Associated Press WASHINGTON -- Prisons and jails added more than 1,000 inmates each week for a year, putting almost 2.2 million people, or one in every 136 U.S. residents, behind bars by last summer. Read more here... All I want to know is does this count? LOL http://www.lowrodder.com/gabe/boardstuff/behindbars.jpg |
that article says black males 25-29... 1 in 10 did time!?
I assume that figure includes people coming in for a 1 night stay.... holding time and transfers double up.... not 1,000 new unique people every week. |
happy 3100 to me

I love dogs :)

The racial makeup of inmates changed little in recent years, Beck said. In the 25-29 age group, an estimated 11.9 percent of black men were in prison or jails, compared with 3.9 percent of Latino males and 1.7 percent of white males.

damn....i guess they're really stepping up on the enforcement of DWB's
|
So according to the latest census black people account for around 50% of the US prison population.
I know black people have some issues in the US but are they really responsible for 50% of the crime in the country? |

The point was really that there is obviously some problem when 62% of the jail population have never been convicted. Dunno.. but it's either a reflection on the court system or lackings elsewhere. Sure as hell that percentage of untried jail cell occupants are not violent offenders or likely to cause extensive damage. The flip side is the numbers of actual violent convicted offenders who escape jails is a joke. The rap sheets of some these guys is a horror story spanning many years. Got a friend with a list of five to locate and arrest now - only started about 9 days ago and got four of the five back in custody already - and only one to find now and only injury so far is a minor cut. Maybe this time they can be kept in a more secure cell and save a lot of hassle. |
that is tough to take
