Duplicate content?

Hi,
I would like to know if you guys think that Google would flag this as duplicate content.

Lets say I write an article, put it on my site and submit it to 200 article sites (like base.google.com). Do you guys think that this would actually harm my site, since the article on my site is also on 200 other sites?

Do search engines actually punish sites that do that, in your opinion?

Please note that the articles will be mainstream. :thumbsup

Thanks,
Logan

Yes they do. Actually some SEs have developed content duplicate filter, and they know what's the source of the content, no matter on how many other sites it is posted....But google, as I know, unfortunately doesn't have that mechanisam developed well so far, and it can penalize sites with dupe content. So I would be careful with it.
I am sure (based on some article, and on my own experience) that MSN has the best dupe content filter. If the orginal content is on siteA.com , but posted on siteB.com and siteC.com, when you search for that content on MSN, it'll show siteA.com as its source, the original source of the content.

I dont think it matters, so many blogs out there have duplicate content from rss feeds its a joke

no it will not punish you and I will tell you why

site A , some content of yours

site B , some content of yours

site C , some content of yours

so , in this case 3 sites have "duplicate content"

BUT site A , site B and site C , have many other things that can not be found on the other site, so site A has much content that is not on site B or site C

it will only become a problem when site A , B and C have many of the same articles posted and thus are identical sites

just one small part that is identical and many other parts that make them very different site under normal circumstances should not be an issue

So, if I go using your logic, if a new site takes 20 sites, copy their articles and make a new site with it, search engines wont punish this new site? :helpme

Dont get me wrong... Im hiring someone to write my own articles. I just want to be sure to do everything right to not get banned from search engines.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Logan
