Are People That Go To Church Mentally Ill?
Well what do you think? Are people that go to church mentally ill? Personally I can't help but to notice almost all of these church going types have this crazy ass "look" about them.
They claim to "hear god", talk in tongues, break down and cry, talk to imaginary friends, dress in weird costumes (especially catholics, etc.), burn weird herbs, eat crackers, etc. etc. Seems pretty dysfunctional to me. Poll is private. |
To me, anyone who believes in God is at least somewhat crazy. I mean, when you think of it, believing in the almighty invisible man because he's in the magical book that has been passed on through the ages is a bit wacky, isn't it?
|
Of all the people that I know who attend church, I have never met one that claims God talks to them, can talk in tongues, has imaginary friends, etc.
Are gays mentally ill? They like sucking cock! Eeewwwww! |
We're all alittle crazy ;)
I think they just depend on a false sense of security in the end. |

That's not the question at hand. That's a different thread, don't change the subject. |
I say yes, anyone who can base their life on a best-selling fictional title such as "The Holy Bible" is seriously mental. No less than say Trekkies or Michael Jackson fans etc.
And Jesus is my FAVORITE fictional character no matter what. |
No, they aren't.
|
The question is harshly worded, but the more I think about it, the more it seems to be true.
Religion is very self-delusional. People want their lives to have meaning and they fear death, so they create this fantasy world where that all happens. They create a God, a heaven, life everlasting, etc.. Yes, it may be a form of mental illness. Karl Marz said that "religion is the opiate of the masses," it's probably one of the smartest things he ever said. |
stupid poll :P
|
I have no problem with people going to express their beliefs, as long as they don't try to push their agenda onto others. Very few people have died for believing in God, Buddhas, etc.
They died because other people disliked the way they expressed their beliefs. Unfortunately people are possessive, emotional creatures. Logic would dictate that if heaven was 100% real and an amazing place to go, we would applaud murderers for sending people to utopia early. To each their own. Just don't bother me, especially while I'm beating off. :2 cents: |
I go to church every sunday - and I enjoy it. Yes I work in the adult industry - and yes I'm a regular church-goer. I do not however push my beliefs upon anyone else, and I expect the same respect from them not to degrade or belittle my beliefs. However this is GFY and the idiots grow on trees.

I think the important difference is Faith. We don't really know that they're wrong about the most important questions. We may just need more proof for ourselves, to believe the same things.
|
i strongly believe that religion is the downfall of mankind

I believe whatever helps you get through life spiritually is nobodies business but your own.You can't judge people by their beliefs

On another note, schizophrenics believe that they hear voices, yet we judge that as having an illness, and not a spiritual communication with the great beyond. Most people that go to church continue to believe things in the bible that modern science has proven to be false. Deep down, I think most of them know the things they "believe" aren't real. Yet, they continue to do so as a way to deal with their own mortality. Sounds like a disorder to me......... |
Anyone that pays money to go to heaven is messed in the head.
|
there is no god lol

people go to church, because they do not know that they can pray in their heart.
i go to church sometimes, because i like the atmosphere. in it Candles, calm and so on |
hey man i every man for himself
|
I believe in GOD.
I believe that GOD is faith. I believe that just BELIEVING is having faith in GOD. It doesn't matter WHAT you believe, as long as you believe in something. That is FAITH. THAT is GOD. I believe in GOD. I am not religious. |
may be catholic churches differ?
|
If the compelling need to believe in something greater than you and nature that controls the fundaments of your very existance and then gather in certain places with others that have at least the same degree of compulsion to this belief as you is crazy? Then damn right they are crazy. But no more crazy than anybody that relies on the supernatural to control their lives and action and needs to do so in a certain place.

I think GFY isnt really the best place for religious discussion. I also think that BoyAlley may not be the best person to start such a thread. :winkwink: :2 cents:
|
They are too stupid to read and understand bible by themselves so they go to church and believe in every single word of preacher.. they are in the most part fucking hypocrites that pretend to be holy but when they back from "houseof god" they sin a lot and hurt other children of the same father sometimes in his name...
|
he must be occupied with this question, needs someone to share with. :)

that is so familiar to me! have the same ideas about that. |
Most definitely a little if not completely fucked in the head.
Especially when I meet/see young kids walking around in bright yellow 'jesus loves you' t's..... |
It depends on what you get out of it. I go to a "church" and I feel sane.

clip of the month :thumbsup |
IMO there are people (especially in poor countries) who can only believe in god, because there's no other option. And if you don't have anything to grab, there is god (for them, not for me:) )..unfortunately lots of them kill themself and others in the name of allah or anything else...
but I cannot really say religion is bad. But I'm happy without it :) |
in bright yellow must be crishnas'
|
keep in mind that what you assume to be going on in the heads of parishoners may or not be the case. I am not a christian, but I have insane respect for some of the books in the bible. I've been reading the Sermon on the Mount (mathew 3-5) and I challenge you to find the "insanity" in those words. If Bush would read THAT bible, this would be a different world.
|
If god did not create man then man surely would have created god.
