would you like to live in the Caribbean?

I've been thinking of buying a lot in one of the islands, build a house and move there.
What do you think, wouldn't that be cool? Anyone else interested in doing something like that? May be we can make a small webmasters community somewhere in an island.

electricity? running water? other ppl of your decent? anything todo other than sit on the beach and get boared after 2 hrs? internet?

the island life isnt all that its cracked up to be. can get pretty boring im guessing. the ocean and nice views can only last so long before its boring

BoyAlley 05-21-2006 11:15 AM

I agree. I need to live in a large, modern city.

Warning Pages 05-21-2006 11:17 AM

Hopefully and god willing I'll be ready in about another 3 yrs. I've already bought a house a in Dominican Republic and I'm ready to move!!! Just need to secure some extra funds before doing so.

NoWhErE 05-21-2006 11:19 AM

Say hello to hurricanes and days without electricity!

Basic_man 05-21-2006 11:19 AM

Maybe not the carabbean, but any exotic place would be cool :)

DWB 05-21-2006 11:22 AM

Get a place to live part time, and see if you like it.

I've been pondering moving the fuck out of expensive, cold and remote finland.
My first plans were the far-east, south of europe or caribbean.. the more I thought about it, the less appealing it seemed. I think places like that are GREAT for vacations or even slightly longer periods of time, but I really wouldn't want to move to live in a 3rd world country. It seems that the souther you go, the crappier the places are. lol.

I'd rather pay a bit more taxes and endure some winter months that be scared of poisonous snakes, hurricanes, kidnappings and tropical diseases. :)

But that's just me.

czarina 05-21-2006 11:26 AM

Actually, I have a place in Mexico, and I just bought a lot South of Rosarito Beach, in Baja (Mexico too). So I know what it's like. I've lived in the Caribbean before and I'm not scared of hurricanes at all. I could say that I like them. There's something amazing about seeing nature unleashed.
Being without electricity for a few days is like camping :)
Seriously, I've been there and I love it.

Of course, Pimpdog is right, I need something else to do, so I would need to find a place with internet access so that I won't get bored.

I'm hoping to be able to do this in about 2 to 4 years.

Kevsh 05-21-2006 11:35 AM

If I was moving to an island, it wouldn't be to move closer to webmasters ;)

fuzebox 05-21-2006 11:36 AM

I'm pondering a move to the caribbean coast of Costa Rica in the next couple of months if that counts :)

I agree, I went for a week and by day 5 I was sooo bored. While its a gorgeous place to live, you lose a lot of the luxuries you have back home.

The poverty of the natives is a downer, corrupt governments, hurricanes.

Southern Europe gives you sun, culture and stability.

RayBonga 05-21-2006 11:43 AM

I'd rather move to some place like Brazil.

chase 05-21-2006 11:55 AM

I don't know about the Caribbean, but a webmaster community sure would make it harder to prove run of the mill adult stuff obscene by community standards.

Not a fun place to go. I'd rather go to Guanacaste on the Pacific side. If you are used to extreme and hostile places, CR Caribbean should be ok 4 u; not 4 me though

Spunky 05-21-2006 12:54 PM

Not really..just like to visit

Theo 05-21-2006 12:59 PM

pimpdog is right, most of carribean islands have limited things you can do. No doubt great places to spend a couple of days, weeks, even or months but perm. staying? I would pass for now.

Pornopat 05-21-2006 01:03 PM

Living on an island in the Caribbean.
Hmm interesting concept.....

Puerto Viejo is easily my favorite beach town in the country, I go all the time...

s9ann0 05-21-2006 01:29 PM

I wouldn't want to live with webmasters but yea I would like to live somewhere hot like that its raining here I am depressed

AdultInsider Cloner 05-21-2006 01:37 PM

I'm moving to Costa Rica in 3 weeks, come live with me :)

DutchTeenCash 05-21-2006 01:42 PM

nice for a vacation but to work 24/7 meh... if you can afford being in Barbedos or so and also living in the US for a few months, combine stuff then sure

MasterCore 05-21-2006 01:54 PM

No Thanks! I already live in a subtropical climate. Am 10 minutes from the beach and a couple of hours from the mountains. Have warm to scorching hot weather for the best parts of 9 months and the remaining 3 months never gets cold enough to force me to wear anything warmer than a t-shirt. Cheap food, cheap drink and cheap dope. Get to see all sorts of wildlife after just a short drive. Get to interact with cultures that have been around for tens of thousands of years. Add to this high speed internet connection, reasonably reliable banking and better than average utility services. Most of the perks of a major city without hassle of living a crowded dirty city. Next to no polution. Access to internation travel a short hop away. And an exchange rate of 6-1 on the dollar and 7-1 on the Euro. Even a bad month pays our bills, feeds us, gets us wasted at our leisure and allows us to enjoy all the entertainments we desire.

So where exactly are you?

OG LennyT 05-21-2006 03:06 PM

yeah I would!

Pornwolf 05-21-2006 03:13 PM

The caribbean and tropical locales bores the shit out of me after a week. The closest I would come to moving to one is Miami. All of the nice weather, none of the boredom.

czarina 05-21-2006 03:24 PM

Oh come on, guys! Wouldn't you love to own a nice tropical home with hammocks (how on Earth do you spell that word?), go fishing, clean your own fish and eat it? go swimming in the mornings, then come home and take care of your garden (an actual vegetable garden, with veggies so tasty that it's great to eat them), then read a nice book, surf the net, chat on GFY, and then at night go visit your friends or go to a restaurant? I'm not talking about a deserted island. I'm talking a small island with other people, a few restaurants, may be a bar or so...

Was just about the mention the hurricanes - they are fine for novelty value, but it can get boring sealing up computer equipment every time a hurricane is about to come near :)

That is probably the major reason for moving out of Hurricane Alley, but otherwise the Caribbean is a very nice place for lifestyle - and still got a base there.

Know what you mean tho... there are a number of very good restaurants on the islands (Egon Ronay Guide standard) and plenty bars open for long hours :pimp I like the islands - a lot!

In a word... no. I want nice weather, beaches, pre-caught/cleaned/cooked fish and no yardwork whatsoever. Plus, I want tropical babes, hot clubs and restaurants. When you find that mix for me on a small uncharted island count me in.

I wasn't afraid either until I saw my neigbors 52 ft. semi trailer being flipped on top by hurricane Charlie two years ago. Scary shit, and we weren't even close to the eye! Charlie lasted for 35 minutes only, I can't imagine what it must have been for those poor people in Mexico last year during Wilma that spinned for 48 hours over the same area.

The weather (apart from hurricanes), beaches, fish, no yardwork is there already - along with restaurants and tropical babes. The "hot clubs" may be a problem tho, depending on the island. St Maartin may be more what you are looking for PW :thumbsup

The eye is not really the problem Jenny - you prob saw the worst of it. When the eye is overhead, everything is calm and the sun shines - till the inner wall passes, then the hell starts again. It's kinda weird - you can sit on the balcony and have a cigar while the eye passes overhead :)

There was one hurricane that hovered over.. one of the Virgin Isles for about 3-4 days. That ripped every boat to shreds and caused extensive damage to construction, but little, if any, casualties.

Mike_AWP 05-21-2006 04:41 PM

yes..:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

nico-t 05-21-2006 04:47 PM

sniperwolf 05-21-2006 05:16 PM

Wiggles 05-21-2006 08:16 PM

i think everyone wants to do that, look at the actual # that do though, there are reasons they dont.

Adam_M 05-21-2006 08:20 PM
