How did MySpace become popular?

Really, Im from Europe, explain it to me.

Huge marketing campaign? Backed by someone?

Back in the day I used IRC a lot, now msn and icq, never felt the need for bs like myspace.

has the perfect interface. Perfect formula. Read the TIME Magazine article a month or so ago.

Word of mouth buzz by teenagers and college kids.

Best advertising possible.

Well.....from the rupery murdoch article in forbes magasine last year. they entered the market when friendster and linkedin where already established.

they just ran the site as is but they listened to their members. Friendster kept deleting their music section or what have u, and myspace went on to develop it further. they kept adding things that their members wanted and in return they have their site to where it is today.

They cater to vanity, voyeurism and people's sense of self-importance. It's an endless sea of whores. It's genius.
