I think that they're just trying to invent everything that happened in Star Wars. I am holding my breath that they invent a real lightsaber in my lifetime, because I will pay anything for one.

There have been tons of hoaxes. Videos always popping up.

The only way I can see that work is by blowing up particles and projecting light on to them.

No clue how they manage to project the light up into the particles.

but then again...I have no clue how 90% of the things I use work :1orglaugh

The only thing wrong with what you just said, is that there is already trillions of zillions of particles in the air. Perhaps they just need to reverse the magnetic fields of some particles to make them act/react the way they want.
