Fun Things to do in LA / Santa Monica?

This is our very first trip to the LA area..WOOHOO I am so excited!

Deeprub and I are leaving on Friday and staying in Santa Monica at the Loews Hotel.. Has anyone heard of it or stayed there... Is it nice??

We have an oceanfront suite.. I am so excited to be able to sit on the balcony and look at the ocean for days.. It is my favorite thing to do.:upsidedow

If you are familiar with the area please give us some tips ...
Is there anything cool to do around the hotel we will be staying at?

As for the night time ..

I need to write a new club review or two while I am in LA..

Do you know of any wild clubs . bondage, fetish, strange, swinger ..

something that I can write a review on for one of my websites..

Thanks for any help!:liebe028:

xoxo
April :-)

Fun for tourists and fun for natives are rarely the same thing. You would probably enjoy Venice Beach . . . all my tourist friends do.

Rent bikes and cycle up and down Santa Monica beach. There are paths.

Body board or surf, although last time I took a dip there I had a weird tingling sensation allover my skin.

Drive or take a bus to Malibu... around 30 mins away.

Eat at the Lobster, great restaurant right next to the ocean. If they still serve it: tuna and avocado salad.

Watch 100s of people doing 100s of different activities from chess to surfing, ultimate frisbree to yoga... you imagine it and there is probably a group of people there doing it. Maybe I am going over the top, but its a pretty diverse and interesting place. Oh and I never felt unsafe at night.

Hope that helps :)

Hal

I would love to see some street performers.. I just looked at the map and it said our hotel was about 1 block from the Santa Monica Pier.. is that close to where the street performers are??

Blazing hot at the beach? In May? I thought you came to Cybernet Expo a year or two ago.

Same general area

baddog 05-21-2006 12:05 AM

If you want hot . . . well, more like warm, you will need to go inland. Universal Studios should be toasty by then.

rants 05-21-2006 12:17 AM

I live in So Cal but I neve even really explored LA county to be honest. I really would like to but it's an hour drive for me and I'm lazy I only like to drive around my city to be honest, I don't like driving to far places.

But if I were to go to LA I would love to visit

Robertson Blvd

The Beverly Center and Fred Segal

All those clubs I see celebs going to like Mood, LAX, Bungalow 8, can normal people even get in there or do you have to be a celeb?

Hollywood

Take a tour around Beverly Hills looking at celeb mansions

I live in OC and I HATE it, it's so suburban and boring. I always wanted to live in LA because it appears so glamorous and exciting. I only went to LA briefly a few times and even the people seem different than OC people, they seem more fast-paced and "busy" while OC people are really laid-back.

I would never want to live in SFV, but rather somewhere around Hollywood or Beverly Hills, or Santa Monica....

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 05-21-2006 12:25 AM

People that come around LA and not from the area and only visit are quick to realise that they ought never come back.

Unless of course ya stick around Santa Monica, Long Beach.

On this lovely, tree-lined street, the girl-powerful?Ghost, Kate Spade, Lisa Kline and Agnes B among others?offer their clever, imaginative and just damn cute designs. It?s where Los Angeles-style ladies who lunch, well, lunch. Early in the afternoon, model-actress-wannabes who?ve already scored a mogul emerge from lunch at the Ivy, and those who have yet to score troop out of the Newsroom Café. Both appear virtually indistinguishable, except for the indiscreet I-really-love-him baubles adorning the manicured fingers of the taken.

These clusters of yoga-cized, self-tanned, pneumatically enhanced girls totter from shop to shop on their four-inch Jimmy Choos, looking for adorable, cleavage-enhancing slip-dresses. And there are so many to choose from. Embroidered, sequined, tie-dyed, fringed, some demure, some racy, all so darling, how can little ?ole size-zero me choose?Answer: buy them all with mogul?s platinum card! Isn?t life fun, girls?

hmmm, in S&M I am not sure. I have never done the beach in Santa Monica. I know that further south the only place I know for sure that you can is Dockweiler Beach.

In fact, when I go to this page it says:

No Alcohol on the beach
No pets on the beach
No fires except at the Dockweiler Beach or Cabrillo Beach fire rings.
Hours of Operation for all beaches: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

rants 05-21-2006 12:40 AM

From Wikipedia :

Robertson is best known as a recent celebrity hangout. This is partially due to a large influx of unique boutiques and designer clothing stores such as Agnes B, Curve, Lisa Kline, and most famously, Kitson, which is a mecca for many celebrity shoppers. In addition, several popular celebrity infused eateries are on Robertson, such as The Ivy and Newsroom Cafe. The Kabbalah Centre is also located further south on the street.

hmmm, when I worked in Beverly Hills I always thought Robertson was kind of slummy. I guess that must be north of Wilshire.

I have no idea, if it's a long street it could be that some areas are ghetto and some are nice... It's where the Ivy is though, it's supposed to be restaurant where a lot of famous people go and there's always papparazi outside...

I have no idea and no clue... I just read a lot of magazines/tabloids and they ALWAYS talk about Robertson blvd so that's why I heard about it.

The Beach Closes?????

Cory W 05-21-2006 09:23 AM

The view from the 405 freeway right at the Getty Center is awesome. Specifically on Fridays.

Cory W 05-21-2006 09:24 AM

If you guys have time, I can probably take you up to Malibu or something like that. It is my old surfing grounds, I know a few pretty cool areas that tourist are not directed towards.

HAPPYPEEKERS 05-21-2006 09:46 AM

Do they have bbq grills on the beach there in SM?

We would love to see some surfers.. I have never actually seen someone surf before..

Cory W 05-21-2006 09:50 AM

Santa Monica is primarily a shallow beach break, I doubt you see many surfers there. But just up in Malibu in the reef areas, there are gorgeous waves (depending of course on whether or not there is some kind of west or southerly swell).

All the same, the areas are gorgeous. Worth seeing, I take everyone there.

I know you seem to be pretty intent on having the party in SM, but if you want bonfires and bbq, you might consider moving the party south a few miles to Dockweiler Beach.
