Down Home Southern Food!

It's scary but delicious!

It'll clog the arteries but put a shine on your shinbone for the shin digs!

MmmmMMMmm! Possum Ankle Stew!

Roast buzzard gizzards and sourgum!

That's good eatin'!

Ever have friends/relatives who feed you this stuff?

pr0 05-20-2006 01:25 PM

Never been offered possum or buzzard.

Have had enough fried chicken, fried okra (not something I like), ham steaks with red eye gravy, grits, chicken fried steak, red beans and rice, collard greens, mustard greens, corn bread, gumbo, jambalaya, craw fish, turkey wings, chittlens (again not my taste), dirty rice, hush puppies, BBQ pork, smothered chicken, sweet tea (I dislike that too), parsnips, sweet potatoes, country ham, cat fish, fat based biscuits, and cobbler to raise the cholesterol of a small nation.

I remember as a kid watching "The Beverly Hillbillies" and they would get to talkin' about what Granny would cook for supper and people would get hungry like a mo'fo'.

One time Jed told Ellie Mae that she should learn to cook because one day she'd get a husband who would be "Hornin' and a pinenin' for some red eyed beans and gravy."

Bull shit! I love hog roasts! Man I haven't been to one of those in probably 10 years. Mmm...

Meatloaf and corn bread is one of the best meals ever. Though meatloaf is more mid-western than southern.

Are you on drugs?

Lamb roasts are the thing back east. Takes shorter time to cook.

Collard Greens when cooked right are highly nutritious. Ribs, Grit Cereal ( you make grits and put sugar or molasses, concentrated milk or flavored rice milk and butter ), corn bread rules. Turnips.

I've had racoon. Bar B Qued at that. Thought it was chicken at first then my pop told me what it was and I freaked.

Well, there was (is) a skill to making tasty food that keeps your family alive out of what was available.

I am Pennsylvannia Dutch and our cooking is amazingly tasty but if you dig hard enough in the recipe box you find a lot of interesting meat and cuts of meat used simply because it is what they had.

Doctor Dre 05-21-2006 03:15 AM

Everything comming from the south is so damn fat... but i love thoses tex mex fajitas, it aiin't THAT bad.
