BIG BALLS and Never at shows...which came first?

Got a topic to debate...................

I hate drama, avoid it like the plague. All who know me know me as a very laid back, and easy to get along with guy.

So when I am on GFY the drama sticks out like a sore thumbs to me. I poke my head in threads, but don't really post or get involved because its just not my style. Im here to talk biz, have some fun, chat with friends, make new ones, and help people if I can.

But when I surf these DRAMA threads I notice some GFY'ers are a bit more prone to DRAMA than the average GFY'er. Some out there seem to always have drama with multiple people at any given time. As I look closer over the years I notice that these drama prone GFY'ers seem to have bigger mouths than most and SEEM to have HUGE KING KONG balls (based on the way they post and things they say).

When I notice one being especially MUCHO MACHO JOHNIE BIG BALLS, I ussually hit up some friends and ask "Hey do you have any pics from a show of *insertgfytoughguyhere*" becuase I want to see what this guy looks like compared to his board persona. But I am always shot down in my search with answers like "Nope, I don't think that guy has ever come to a show"

So my topic is this...................does "Johnie BIG BALLS" NOT go to shows because of all the shit talking he has done?

Or does he do all that shit talking BECAUSE he knows he will never go to a show?

Or I guess answer C) could be "Jonnie BIG BALLS" doesn't go to shows cause he is to busy pumping iron and training for the next UFC PPV (which I highly doubt)

What are you thoughts?

BoyAlley 05-19-2006 10:15 PM

Uhm. Yeah.

Anyone know wtf he's talking about?

Did I loose you? :winkwink:

No hidden agenda or names I am leaving blank. Just a simple topic to dicuss.

Spunky 05-19-2006 10:19 PM

It's mostly about branding really..I tend to avoid them except for the sponsor related also usually is just another belly buck piss match which always winds up as just another sig view attempt

Libertine 05-19-2006 10:21 PM

I have balls the size of pumpkins, but I don't go to shows because it seems like a waste of time and money.

tony286 05-19-2006 10:22 PM

I dont go because we are self contained, we are not affiliates and we dont have a program. I rather when I travel to shoot, we see who is near and have a visit.

WarChild 05-19-2006 10:23 PM

I train to fight 5 days a week so I can run my mouth as much as I like and never have to fear 99.9% of all people, never mind webmasters.. Does that mean I'm the biggest, baddest hombre out there? Fuck no, there's always a bigger fish floating in the stream.

WEGCash Robert 05-19-2006 10:25 PM

I have noticed that a few times on other boards too. Big talk and no show. But you never know.

And one day a stray bullet cans your ass .Are we supposed to feel intimidated? So you train to fight..what,so you can accomplish the fact you're stronger than another man?

TheSpreader 05-19-2006 10:27 PM

I can hang out at my local bar and a) spend a lot less money b) meet better "business contacts" and c) meet girls that might actually fuck me.

But because I can't take massive amounts of pictures and post them here means I'm not cool or have the "balls" to go to a show. I've actually been to a couple shows and they are an incredible waste of time other than using it for props on GFY.

The Ghost 05-19-2006 10:28 PM

It's quite often drama is filled with keyboard warriors. But I can add that appearing at a show isn't a prerequisite for being in the business or doing business. I personally believe attending helps business tremendously, but there are a few persons I know of (in our business) that are best suited to never speak or appear in public. It would be detrimental to their business, because of the amount of partners and people in general they would rub the incorrect way.

But when somethings appear as obvious scams, it's nice to know who to avoid in the first place. Where I do draw exceptions are the issues that effect our entire industry, like the continual screwing of our customer base. But many issues are best addressed by no comment at all.

Yes there are always bullets, especially in a third world country where life is cheap. That's what concealed weapons permits are for, but even that isn't perfect.

Nobody should feel intimidated. I don't go around bullying people or picking fights, at least not in many years. I'm just a firm believer in being able to back up your mouth. You won't catch me making posts on GFY that I wouldn't repeat to somebody's face.

For me fighting is a sport, I enjoy it. I guess you could say what's the point in running a marathon? So you're faster than another man. Same thing, some people are just more competitive than others.

Ahhhh but your name also does not stand out in my mind as being one of the offending assholes I notice on boards.

IF you train and workout and have balance in your life than you probably see no reason to mouth off on the boards or act like Billy Jack Bad Ass. AND you are probably smart enough to know that for business...........that type of persona is probably NOT the best move.

I know there are legit tough guys on the boards! There are 2 from Phoenix that are big names in the biz that could choke any of us out in 2 seconds. But they are also 2 of the most mellow and drama free people on the boards.

CuriousToyBoy 05-19-2006 10:30 PM

I go to shows (LOTS of them).

There are MANY pics.

I don't take shit from anyone, anytime.

The math in my personal case is simple.

;-)

Wise words.

With one exception on my part - I always train NOT to have to fight.

:2 cents: :thumbsup

Yeah, for me, fighting is more about competition than actually hurting someone. Street fighting isn't a sport, it's survival, and always best avoided. Now two men in the ring, well that's a sport. :thumbsup

To me, attending webmaster conventions and industry shows isn't the yardstick by which I measure anyone in this industry. I'd imagine people don't attend shows for a variety of reasons - not just because they're big mouths online and lack the gnads to show themselves in public.

For instance - my wife and I have attended many shows over the years, both as exhibitors and just visitors. But they are primarily niche-related (bondage/fetish)...and therefore we don't show up in photos of 'mainstream' conventions like Internext or whatnot. Mainstream generally doesn't interest us and isn't of benefit to our company.

Perhaps some folks don't attend due to financial or time constraints. Or those with kids who have family responsibilities and obligations.

I wouldn't categorize everyone according to their online personna. The industry contains a widely diverse demographic of people of all interests and persuasions.

My :2 cents:

See now your well thought out and well written reply speaks volumes about the fact that you are NOT in the target group of which I speak.

The only people who talk shit on boards are the ones who dont have shit or balls.

I never worry about the big mouths I worry about the silent guys.
I'm old school been in many fights and shot at etc. Not once did I ever start a right but I always finished it.

talking shit is always my last resort to much energy and life is to fun.

Jman 05-20-2006 08:36 AM

I go to shows to see my friends... EVERYONE knows who I am.

I hang out with la creme de la creme of the Industry.

The only people that have tried to stir shit with me is a few assclowns from GFY ... But funny enough there shit don't stick and they easily go away.

I don't do drama but won't tolerate BS or friends of mine being threaten or abused on GFY.

Oh and as ANYONE ever seen NoCarrier at a Show ???

The Big Ball guys should be called Big Mouth guys. Some actually do show up
at shows and in the months before a big shows you'll see the countless I'm
going to fuck you up bad, fight, kill, shoot, rape your dog at <insert show>.
But when the show is on....the same people cuddle, laugh, greet eachother
friendly and tell eachother it's all a joke and what a standup guy they really
are.......These are not BIG balled people at all.

Trey aka pimpdog is the undisputed record holder for receiving most threats
I can't recall any show where actually somebody punched his lights out.

Joesho 05-20-2006 08:59 AM

well, I have been very guilty of speaking my mind, and defending myself on a board when I feel attacked.
I have made the mistake of standing up for other people too ( damn that always gets me in trouble) when I felt that there was a little guy or underdog, or friend of mine being picked on or attacked by the drama folks.

I actually do not like board drama and try to avoid it for the most part now days .

I made the point early on when I first got into the business of standing my ground when I was called stupid, or noob, or a nobody, etc.....
( never allowed it to happen in real life, and was not about to allow it then)

However I learned that many of the people talking shit, were either testing my response, or actualy were people like what you are reffering to here in your question.

I am always at shows, and I am always a true person. I will speak my mind and stand my ground. and if any of you have met me, you know I am not one to take bullshit from people either.

I do not consider myself a tough guy and do not want that persona, ( I will however definatly fight if provoked or it is necassary)

I am here to do business first and foremost, friends come second, and as for the drama and bullshit, well..... I too wish it was not a part of our industry but alas it seems it is at least on the board part.

I do get business done at shows and I do not understand how people do not get business done if they go there for that purpose. some of the best talks I have ever had about business and life in general have happened late night at a trade show.

I hope I have not given too many of you the wrong impression of me over the years, by the way I have posted.

I am working on that LOL, I hope to meet everyone in person and really get to understand them and for them to understand me as a person at some point in time.

Boards just can not offer that the way a good sit down conversation face to face can. With that said I do not believe in the excuse board persona is different than in person persona. I think that is used as a cop out to many times.
