Looking to stay in San Francisco

Me and the wife are planning a trip out to San Francisco, Reno and Tahoe. I was wondering were is the best location to stay in San Fran, and where I definately did NOT want to stay. This will be our first trip out there. We are looking to spend maybe two days in San Fran before running up to Reno for a couple of nights and a day in Tahoe.

We have decided to fly into Oakland's airport if that matters on location. We would like to try to stay close to the airport on the last night, as we have a 7 am plane to catch back to Florida.

Thanks to all that live or are familair with the area for you advice in advance.

changing a place is very serious, think twice before you do it, first you change the place, then your life is changing

Actually we are only going out for a vacation, not to live there. Just didn't want to spend my vacation in a place that wasn't a good place to be. Would like to just relax and worry because I picked a bad part of town to stay in.

It really depends on what you want to see and do in and around SF and how you plant to go around. Avoid the Tenderloin for sure.
