Might wanna update that page though too, because Mac OS 8 is quite a few years old, its mac OS X gee could Win again be ccopying Mac? hahaha
|
I've never been a Mac freak by any means, but I used to run a tremendous amount of shit off a PowerMac 7200 with LinuxPPC back in the day, and those Motorola chips DO haul ass. If OS X can really put a usable GUI on top of BSD, I'm down with it. Beats GNOME (except for the "it costs money" part).
The hardware's a bit pricey, though. |

When I drop 6k on a Dual g4 with Cinema screen its a write off, to a kid in high school its a fucking debt, so for him its not even a question... to me its just putting tools in my hands. Ive always thought about this, people always quick to argue fuck mac fuck mac, but these people are people who use Kazaa and bearshare to exchange files, and regular bs, my macs arent even allowed to surf the net man, theyre not for that. Which is why people complain about the price, sure if ya wanna trade porn and download free mpws sure get an emachine, you wanna a mac you have to know WHy youre buying the mac, I know why I bought mine ;) |
I'm with you on that.
I know people who DO use dual-processor Macs to send email and browse the Web, but they're idiots with too much money and a desperate need to buy their way into something they can't understand and won't ever use (much lkike the guy I know who commutes on the 405 at 6 MPH in a Ferrari). You're totally right that a server purchase (or even an editing machine purchase) is a totally different ball of wax. I was just griping that for relatively similar I/O performance, particularly if you're buying servers in quantity, PCs tend to be cheaper, simply because they're made out of commodity hardware. Of course, that also means you have to test the crap out of them to ensure that all the pieces will work together, or hope it doesn't bite you in the butt. One way or another, I think OS X is good for the Mac platform, and will probably give the machine the props it deserves in the server market. For me, as long as I can telnet in, I'll use whatever I get, as long as it doesn't crash. |
Good shit...

Man, I sat there for a minute scratching my head, "Hmm, Lets see if I can actually figure out how to exit this without CTRL+ALT+DELETE'ING.
