Thinking of moving to Vancouver BC CANADA... Any Tips?

I grew up in Los Angeles but after a 3 day stay in Vancouver, I just fell in love with Canada. Imagine, no smog, no bullshit "you are what you drive" Los Angeles attitude, plus the snow capped mountains and clear water fuckin' rocked. I am really debating whether to move there. No dis against the US but Canada seems like more my speed.

I'd like some tips re immigration to Canada [I'm a US Citizen] and where is a good district to live in in Vancouver. Besides adult-related businesses, I'm also bringing in my other businesses. I am single so I won't need to petition my whole family.

Any links or advice would greatly help.

Live on the Island man, Its even nicer then the mainland.... Nanaimo or Victoria are incredible, I go skiing out there whenever I get a chance

allsops 05-19-2002 08:15 PM

I live on the island and it definetely is super nice, though there's less to do here than in Vancouver.

As for where to live in Vancouver, well it really depends on how much you want to spend on a place. I can tell you some really nice places to call your home but they're priced accordingly. It's all dependent upon how big your cheque book is really. :)

Maybe you're right...
Your ancestors stole land from Indians while our dumb ass ancestors stole land from Eskimos....:(
( Yes i know it's Inuit , but i'm talking to a yankee)

DrewKole 05-19-2002 08:41 PM

Lol, good luck gettin a visa... seriously, good luck.

Brown Bear 05-19-2002 08:43 PM

If you move to Vancouver here are some tips.

1. Live on the westside, not the eastside.

2. Don't live in Surrey, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Langley, Richmond, they are all boring areas.

3. Living downtown is good too if you like living in high rise apartments. The closer you live to Stanley Park, Robson Street, or Denman, then nicer it is. Don't live on the east side, its crap.

4. If you choose to live in North Vancouver, be prepared for lots of traffic jams getting over the bridge every day.

Uhh... we have Alaska. And not all Eskimos are Inuit. Some are Siberian Yupik and Inuit-Inupiaq smartass. I used to work in Alaska.

Brown Bear 05-19-2002 08:47 PM

By the way, if you can't get a visa or citizenship or whatever, you should go and live in Point Roberts, WA

its only a 30 minute drive from downtown Vancouver to Point Roberts. So you can still live in the US and be within 30 minute drive of Vancouver!

i too have been entertaining the thought of moving to vancouver, my brother, and both parents were born in canada. so i dont think that citizenship things would be too much of a problem, anyone know of any websites about vancouver, possibly to help find housing and the likes. and any canucks know the url of your immigration service, as id like to find out what i would have to do to get my greencard.

spanky 05-19-2002 09:19 PM

if you're highly skilled as defined in nafta a work permit will be no problem... you'd have to check if you meet the tn2 status. nafta made it pretty easy for US and Canadians with skills to get back and forth across the border for work. If you're not then expect a huge hastle. If you have US business interests you might consider just keeping property in Canada without getting citizenship.

Kitsilano by the beach is where you want to be if you have a little money.

cheers

BrettJ 05-19-2002 09:35 PM

Move to seattle. same climate. same mountains. same socio-economic state -

but we can own and carry fire arms =) and you don't need to hassle with emigration issues

dizank 05-19-2002 09:56 PM

brett, i went to college in seattle, and my father still lives there, it is an incrediably expensive smuggy shithole.

Wait, don't do that. Yes, I agree, if you got bucks, for sure grab some real estate in Vancouver. Those that I know that live on the island all swear by that, so if I were you I'd take a tour of some outlying areas like that as well before I made the move.

ok better question. anyone recommend any nice places to live out side of washington but still on or near the west coast? this state is outrageously overtaxed, standard of living is LOW, our government is spending way to much money on senseless bullshit and they want to higher taxs even more. living expenses are some of the highest in the nation. we have lower test scores then the average mean. above average obesity, above average hunger rate. what is this telling you? oh, maybe, washington is slightly f*cked with an overtone of a bleeding heart liberal state government.

Brown Bear 05-19-2002 10:28 PM

I was in some nice towns on the west coast of Oregon. They aren't very big cities, but they were nice little communities.

BrettJ 05-19-2002 10:42 PM

I don't know what you're talking about Diz -

Our taxes aren't bad - and compared to Canada - we are doing pretty good. Especially business taxes.

the other western states? are you kiddin me? utah (not on my life), nevada, montana, colorado (okay maybe colorado), new mexico, california, oregon (okay, maybe oregon), idaho - maybe cour dalene but not boise. You sound fairly conservative - idaho or wyoming. ya like wide open spaces?

GTS Mark 05-19-2002 10:48 PM

Hey G Sharp, I am moving to Vancouver (From Toronto) at the beginning of September. I have visited Vancouver many times and love that part of the country. I am going back to school and am taking business at UBC.

I am going to be living in Corporate housing in West Van for a few months until I find a place that I like.

Hit me up on ICQ, I would love to meet up and have a beer with you if you end up going out there.

Have fun and good luck getting your VISA.

m0rph3us 05-19-2002 10:54 PM

Vancouver rocks. Just hope you like rain =)

dizank 05-19-2002 11:06 PM

well when it comes to stairing at mountains daily or stareing at buildings all day, id choose the mountains hands down any day of the week. althought the city is a beautiful thing to look at on some days, the mountains are all the time. i mean have you been to downtown seattle lately, do you like crackheads?

hell yeah im conservative(if thats what you want to call it), i think any american should be able to own any damn gun they want and shoot anyone that comes on thier property with prejudice and no warning, i think i should be able to drive my 4 wheel drive any damn place i choose as long as its american soil, and its not private, i believe in killing murders and rapists', i think we should bring back the chain gang, i think that weed ought to be legalized, i mean damn, let people do with thier lifes as they want. if they want to get strungout on coke by al means let them. we dont need uncle sam telling us what we can and cant do. i also think that english should be the american language, if you cant speak/read/write it dont freakin come here. i do not belive in welfare, these whores punching out kids every which way ought to go get jobs and stop getting knocked up.

i want less goverment in my life, and more freedom in my life. i dont like to see blacks, asians, and mexicans going to college before me because of what damn color my skin is. or what my nationality is. i do believe in equal rights for all however. f*ck affirmative action and the mofo who though of the idea. i dont think we should have censorship of any kind on tv or otherwise. i think what we need are parents. its a good thing that pansy al gore didnt get elected, or we would have been over ran by arabs a month after 9/11.

i live on the other side of the moutains from you, i see orchards and wheat fields going dry and people losing thier livelyhoods because of sissies on your side of the mountains bitching about how we are screwing with the salmon, well then you come here and live, and tell people they cant water thier crops and feed thier kids. you come here and tell people they cant go camping in the wilderness because they might cause erosion. its horsecrap and we all know it. well anyone with half a brain can see it. i sat and looked at the rainbows(caused by oil) in lake union a few weeks ago and though to myself, "and they say we are the ones screwing up the environment." tha power your running your stove on, that was made by people like me fomr this side of the mountain with damns that your people want to be shutdown.

at this point i think a red-blooded american is the smallest minority left anymore.

</rant> :) :BangBang:

Not all "East" Vancouver is bad. Downtown East is absolute shit....but I live in East Vancouver (close to 49/knight) and its fine. West is very expensive.

I agree that North Vancouver is annoying cause the bridge gets traffic jams and is very slow to travel.

Richmond isn't boring but its packed Asian malls/stores/bars... If you don't care about that thing then Richmond does kinda suck.

Milton 05-20-2002 04:24 AM

michaelFAL 05-20-2002 06:33 AM

no no silly. Its a Canadian law that females must give head every morning & swallow. Women do sortive eat babies & fish for breakfast.
The daily blowjob is wonderful. When a guy is happy he works harder & doesn't cause fights or commit crime.

Ain't no 'smuggy' shit around here! We let the offshore winds blow all our crappy air over to the real shit holes like the Tri-cities and Spokane. As for expensive.. Big whoop, houses cost a little more but everthing else is no more expensive than anywhere else. What am I saying? Seattle sucks ass! Stay away from here!!! :NopeNope

Daymare 05-20-2002 09:44 AM

I've got a tip for you, when you get to BC, buy a cabin in the woods and smoke weed all day :)
