Beer

What are your plans for the long weekends of the summer?

Here's one that's rather high on my list of things to do...

These aren't the little pussy-cans, these are the high-test tallboys,
like 5.5% alcohol and 15 3/4 ouces each (473 ml)
Here's a closer look....

I have 400 long-necks (750mL bottles) of these various beauties aging nicely in the pantry.
Sensational beers, some brewed with a few tricks and extra additives.
I've been a homebrew fanatic for over 5 years and I despise commercial beers now.
I can brew a far meaner drop, far cheaper and it is so much more satisfying to drink, especially the special batches of wheat beer I have that nudge 10% AV.

Absolutemonde!! I've brewed a shitload of homemade in my day, a few batches actually nudging past 10%. Had it down to a veritable science for a while there.

Yes, if I had 400 mega-bottles of home brau stocked up I'd definitely never be buying union-made. But I could never keep it on stock long enough to have a stock!

I got into making wine for a while too, and I have some killer recipes for that. Gotta get busy on that one of these days, and fire up that wart.

ha.

Rat, you could only pray to have such golden nectar trickling down your throat boyo.

Guinness, like stout, is the bottom sludge of the vat. And no it doesn't contain most of the alcohol, only doofuses and morons thin that. Are you thinnin that?

No.

I like the cans for this particular beer because A) they don't come in 15 3/4 ounce bottles, only cans,

and B) the cans get cold faster.

I keep 3 or 4 big glass mugs in the freezer, and 1 of these beers fits perfectly in these mugs.
Frosty mugs of beer mate, that's where the ticket is. Shad I crack ya one Rat?

PSSST!!!

Well, I occasionally still have to drink the bought stuff, restaurants around here don't extend BYO to homebrew :Graucho

I knew that problem all too well, until an old bloke that owns the local brew shop convinced me to put aside a dozen bottles a batch and let them age past the "now drinkable" (around 6 week) stage.

All I can say is wow. What a difference 3 months makes, 6 months is even better, and by 12 months most beers pour a perfect glass, nice creamy head and they hold that right down to the last drop in the glass. Colors, textures, flavours and aromas are just incredible.

Now what I brew this week for example, will get a taste at 6 weeks to make sure the batch is good, then half of it won't see daylight, literally, for another 6 months, the other half will sit for 12 months. Takes some serious self control to get this started, but it's worth every drop :thumbsup

No matter how you make it, buy it or pour it....

... it's damn refreshing.

I just went outside for our annual "May long weekend" fireworks. I live across the river from "The Forks", a huge market and entertainment area here in the Peg. All day and all evening they've had concerts going on, a pretty large carnival, and a lot of other great shit too. So, I stepped outside to watch the fireworks.... shit, I hope the Canada Day display is better than this one. Barely 30 seconds of what looked to be backyard brand BS amateur pop rockets.

Good thing I brought my dog out for a whiz, otherwise it'd have been a total waste of time. Rat would've laughed himself into a stupor, and I'd have laughed with him. (A nice change from my usual "at him")

I love Efes Pilsen Beer. Do everybody know it here?

Sugarpuss 05-19-2002 10:30 PM

What is that stuff?

mark of a beer.

chodadog 05-19-2002 11:35 PM

A friend of mine brews his own beer. Very mixed results.. He's not very patient. His last brew, he brought it up a day before the minimum. Now he's left with 23 Litres of "Vinegar Beer"

And to top it off, the stubborn asshole will drink the lot of it!

We had a German guy over for a barbeque last night. A lot of the beer over there is 8 percent alchohol. Considered pretty standard for a heavy apparently. My dad was in Germany one time, down in the south. As some of you know, most German towns have their own brew.. My dad told me, quite a few were pushin' 12 percent.. That is one god awful strong beer.

jscott 05-19-2002 11:46 PM

German beer bitburger was pretty good, other than that I'm a But Lite bottle kinda guy

drunkmonkey 05-20-2002 12:12 AM

Now this is my kind of thread:drinkup

Unfortunately, I have neither the patience nor the talent to brew my own. My friends and family have to keep it secret when they are working a batch because I have been known to "befriend" a still or two. The attempts I have made at brewing my own ale are too horrific to describe. Let's just say there was alot of nausia involved waaaaay before it should have been.

Has anyone tried Captain Morgan's Gold?
