Dear TexasDreams

The "proof" is that all those sites promote moviepass.tv in their exits and the TOS of moviepass states:

2. HOW IT WORKS
BY PARTICIPATING IN THE MOVIEPASS MEDIAPIPE FREE TRIAL OFFER THE MEDIAPIPE SOFTWARE WILL ENABLE YOU TO ACCESS THE AVAILABLE CONTENT FOR THE PERIOD OF TIME SPECIFIED ON THE ADVERTISMENT YOU HAVE CLICKED THROUGH. IF YOU DO NOT EITHER CANCEL OR PROVIDE PAYMENT INFORMATION DURING THE TRIAL PERIOD OUR BILLING SOFTWARE WILL BE ENABLED UPON THE EXPIRATION OF YOUR TRIAL PERIOD. THE BILLING SOFTWARE WILL RUN ON YOUR COMPUTER, DISPLAYING POP-UP WINDOW REMINDERS THAT PROVIDE YOU WITH VARIOUS METHODS OF PAYMENT FOR THE ANNUAL LICENSE. THESE POP-UP WINDOWS WILL APPEAR MORE FREQUENTLY UNTIL YOU CHOOSE ONE OF THE PAYMENT OPTIONS AND PAY FOR THE LICENSE. THE BILLING SOFTWARE IS SOLELY DESIGNED TO PREVENT FRAUDULENT AND UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THE MEDIAPIPE SOFTWARE. IF YOU FAIL TO PAY OR CANCEL DURING THE TRIAL PERIOD, YOU ARE LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO PURCHASE AN ANNUAL LICENSE TO THE MEDIAPIPE SOFTWARE AT THE PRICE LISTED IN THE ADVERTISEMENT YOU CLICKED THROUGH TO INITIATE INSTALLATION.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

ONCE THE SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER IT WILL CREATE AUTO START FEATURES WITHIN YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM THAT WILL RUN PROCESSES ON YOUR SYSTEM. THESE PROCESSES AND ALL COMPONENTS OF THE SOFTWARE CAN BE COMPLETELY REMOVED SHOULD YOU ELECT TO CANCEL YOUR TRIAL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD. IF YOU DO NOT CANCEL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD OUR SOFTWARE LICENSE MANAGEMENT UTILITY WILL STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND WILL CONTINUE TO LAUNCH ON START UP OF YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL YOU SATISFY THE OBLIGATIONS YOU AGREED TO WHEN YOU INSTALLED OUR SOFTWARE.

They keep popping up shit until you pay, or you figure out how to remove it, even if you don't want to continue beyond the trial.

What "proof" are you asking for?

SmokeyTheBear 05-17-2006 09:35 PM

i think it would be fair to hear them respond , and based on my own personal evaluation of that TOS unless they come in here and tell us thats not whats happening , we dont need anymore proof.. and infact they did come on gfy and respond and didnt think it was prudent to comment on this topic.. i dont think thats cool at all , i think they need to respond to the complaints or find themselves at the other end of a blacklist. The topics brought up need to be OPENLY put to rest, or OPENLY kept alive .

Based on that tos i dont think anyone should be doing anything with this company and if i were you i would stay FAR FAR away from it lest you be dragged through the mud with them..

With that being said , i haven't tried the software yet so i havent seen that it actually does what the tos says it does.. but i will be .. btw if anyone has any old copies of this software please keep it downloaded for me so i can check out to make sure there no code switchery going on now that its been brought out

OldSchoolJim 05-17-2006 09:38 PM

Smokey...Epiccash will also be looking for your results.....if the claims set forth this evening come to be true then this will be the last month of our contract with them. :winkwink:

I hear you.. Even if the software doesn't currently do it, they "can" do it at any time though.

I'd like to know if access is cut off after the trial period. i.e. you don't cancel cause you never paid anyway and have no intent of ever going back, but they demand money from you. That's what most people will end up doing. No reason to cancel if you never whipped out the CC in the first place.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...n.muvipaz.html

Symantec considers it a Trojan Virus.

symantec's findings aren't a reliable enough indicator of there being something wrong with the trojan your company is helping to populate? :1orglaugh

Your "findings" are obviously bullshit as stated by the Washington Post and Symantec to name but two.

As far as "bedtime" I seem to recall it was you that stated you were in bed in the thread you started targeting Franck.

baddog 05-17-2006 10:12 PM

. . . and "the last month?" So, if it turns out that it is everything it is said to be, you will continue to fuck the Internet for another 2 weeks?

I've already talked with Smokey and others, and am waiting back for other results. So far to me looks like the uninstall works just as they state.

Exactly what findings would get you to remove it? It's clearly RansomWare (based on their own TOS which maybe you should have read) and considered a Trojan Virus (Symantec).

surely you're not defending this?

"IF YOU DO NOT CANCEL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD OUR SOFTWARE LICENSE MANAGEMENT UTILITY WILL STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND WILL CONTINUE TO LAUNCH ON START UP OF YOUR COMPUTER"

That's all fine except what about once the trial has elapsed and the ransoming kicks in? Supporting that type of product is not going to reflect well.

Besides. This was about you locking the thread based on what I said in it.. You have not shown me where what I said was not backed up by all the readily available information. Being able to uninstall it does not alter the fact that it's ransomware and those programs promote it.

baddog 05-17-2006 10:28 PM

Sorry TD, just because it will let you uninstall if you do it in the first 3 days does not make it right.

ANAL PASTE 05-17-2006 10:29 PM

sig spot

AmateurFlix 05-17-2006 10:33 PM

if you don't reply to this thread in the next 3 seconds you owe $230987327543985743

does that sound fair? lol

Now you need to start sending him ICQ messages every hour saying he owes you $99 for the annual licensing fee... make him have to search the net for the 33 step process to get you to stop..

Choppa 05-17-2006 10:57 PM

will be interesting to hear all the findings when they come to fruition keep us up to post Texas dreams :thumbsup

media 05-17-2006 11:14 PM

If there is bullshit and Smokey can call shenanigans on the uninstall of this product then we will also be ending our contract, until then we have a contract that will goto term... I think Texas Dreams is going to be running some tests in addition to Smokey.

Thanks for the tests and legwork Smokey and Texas Dreams, I hope the results you obtain are similar to what I experienced...

Libertine 05-17-2006 11:19 PM

I don't expect too much from the tests. It seems, from what I've read, that it's remotely controlled. Therefore, it would seem like a smart idea for MP to tone it down a bit for the next week or so.

That would be 72 hours more than Microsoft, Symantec, McAfee, AOL, or many others in the Fortune 500 give.

:2 cents:

Tempest 05-17-2006 11:35 PM

Hey Smokey.. You might need this info... LOL...
And I want to know if they actually threaten your credit rating and legal action..

:2 cents:

What are you talking about.. I can uninstall that stuff by selecting "uninstall"... Have you looked at the moviepass.tv site? I haven't seen any uninstall instructions. Apparently you have to be a member to be able to access that info. Catch 22 maybe??

Tempest 05-17-2006 11:43 PM

Check out if this is also true...

No license agreement is displayed during installation.
You can't contact customer services unless you pay for a subscription.
You can't cancel the service until you've paid for a subscription.

Verified. It says "I am over 18 and agree with the terms", and that text is clickable and brings out the HUGE contract I mentioned earlier, but I know for a fact that most surfers will not realize that it is in fact clickable.

I know you can't reach customer support pages unless you're logged in, and I also know that with my trial software, logging in did not work.
