Sly . . . a question about your voice software

I was wondering, do you have to make sure you don't have any TV or stereo on when you do stuff that requires you to speak to your pc?

The reason I ask is that my cell phone has a feature where I can just say the name of the person I am calling and it will dial it. If my TV is up too loud it doesn't work.

The technology isn't the greatest still. It always works better in quite rooms or with simple ambient noise in the background like the fans on your PC. One time I had a cat meow in the background and it typed something... I can't remember what it was.

Yeh, background noise often causes problems. I always have music going but I leave the volume fairly low for two reasons: 1) loud music makes it more difficult for the software to understand what I'm saying and 2) sudden loud bursts will make the voice program freeze. Its a pain in the ass because I always have heavy metal going and sometimes the screaming will freeze me up. Sounds funny but its true.

The other morning a couple college kids were riding around in one of those gas powered scooters for a couple hours. Those things are loud. I couldn't get anything done, haha.

I'm trying to find some really good headphones that don't let music escape so I can blast the volume without interfering with the microphone. If anybody knows of something, feel free to post a link.

I have thought about using it for the same reason. It would make my life so much easier.

What if something was put around the mic to help buffer out background noises?

Like foam? It has the little black foam around it.

And if you guys claim to be lazy, voice software is not for you, haha. I'm pretty fast but I've been doing it for 9 years. You'll get frustrated within 5 minutes and start throwing things, haha. If you have hands, use 'em.

I am presuming that the stock foam is pretty thin . . . maybe add another layer.

And yeah, I can see how it could get frustrating . . . just programming my phone is a PITA.
