does every server has a firewall?
......... see title..?
|
noooooooo
|
nope, most don't in fact
|
Only if you install one or your host does. Many hosting companies have some sort of firewall protection in place for their own network which you are on.
That's not 100% protection, nothing is. The very nature of hosting a site puts a server at risk. |
yea my server has a firewall?
|
Well, it is not something that one advertised but I think that it all depends on the admin. The firewall is not activated by default and need someone to set it up. The trouble is that server rentals are getting cheaper and there are just too many inexperience admin out there which do not protect their servers, sadly some of them are web hosts out to make a quick buck.

depends
but a non managed box etc no for sure |

The box user must do his own install of supplemental library and firewall... |
no sir they dont
|
hm ok.. what if you got SSL on it for secure things... is that enough even if you dont have a firewall?
And how can i check in my directadmin if my server got a firewall? |
Most hosts think a router is enough to protect you, it really isn't. Most Unix and Linux distros do not come with a firewall installed, you need to install and configure.

SSL is just an encryption process for data sent over the net ( https )...it does not protect the box but some data.... :2 cents: |
thanks for the info yall :)
|
Most of the time there are hardware firewalls built into the routers that the server connects to, but they don't do a whole lot.
|
routers route, firewall filters, and switches are switches, routers should not be used to filter even though they have ACL rules its not their job.
Just get an admin that can configure your firewall on your server and change ssh ports/lock it down you wont regret it :thumbsup |
