Hooking you all up Again
just saw this on Offshore Clicks
The latest version of the personal firewall software "zone alarm" includes a function that inserts javascript on the surfers pages that stops popups. Taken from the AWI board is this piece of javascript code that we suggest adding to your pages to stop zonealarm from stealing your popups: script language="JavaScript" if (window.NS_ActualOpen){window.open = NS_ActualOpen;} /script |
popups sucks anyway.
And you should check out your javascript code because you forgot to add some stuff in it...it wont work that way :thumbsup |
i had to modify it so people can see the code
you should know to put it in these brackets < > |
doesnt matter if popups suck, i get sales off of popups
|
What's the point of putting a code that will enable popups again for a user that has specifically shut them off? If they don't want to see popups do you think they will click on them? Let alone buy something after clicking on them. Nope, they'll close it before it even loads.

its a firewall
zonealarm is including a feature to stop popups the consumer WANTS a firewall He DOESNT want a pop up stopper It is now being included in the FIREWALL PROGRAM the firewall is freeware http://www.zonealarm.com/products/za/index.html |

The popup stopper in ZA is an option. The user can turn it on or off. If they want it on, then they obviously don't want popups, and to say to them, "You're gonna get em anyway" isn't the best way to do bidness in my eyes..

I hate popups while Im surfing...
The other day while at Yahoo, a banner popped up. It caught my attention... and I clicked through. Even if your surfer hates popups... there is ALWAYS a chance that he or she will see somthing that catches their attention. |

I think we all need to consider a few things here.
I don't know what kind of biz Hyper is running that's his business...but if you are pushing 1 - 2 pop ups on exit I don't see a problem with this at all. The simple fact is we are in ADVERTISING folks...and whether you guys like it or not pop ups are just one of the many forms it takes. It's not illegal, and once again if used in moderation is fine. In fact the owner of this board utilizes pop ups for at least one of his programs and now I dare you to tell him he's "fucking over the surfer." Pop ups are not the only thing that is killing this industry if it is killing it at all. Of course the decent into hell pop up chain sponsors like Offshore push are a pain in the ass, but there are other things in this biz combined that are having ill effects on the bottom line. Things like the proliferation and increasing quality of free porn, auto-bookmarking scripts and the auto-downloading of dialers, the sudden increase of newbie webmasters over the last year (including myself) looking for a get rich quick scheme. Anyway, this is very useful information because whether you like it or not pop ups are not going away....in fact they are becoming more prevalent throughout the net. Thanks hyper :thumbsup |
i usually use a exit console if they dont continue into my sites
the reason i put this here is that pop ups do sell in moderation, 2 pops max (1 small size) (1 medium size). this helps if they change their mind they may come back and yes i have had some do so. now according to download.com http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.ht...arm&tg=dl-2001 14 million downloads have occured, this program also has a auto update feature built in, so when its released they will also have that feature installed. no matter how you slice it. a sale is a sale is a sale. period. |
Most of us have been on the internet for a long damn time. Many of us have been on the net before there was even graphics, let alone advertising. Old timers especially find pop-ups intrusive. I remember when everyone was bitching about banners being intrusive. Looking back, that is funny as shit.
The majority of surfers today accept and even expect pop-ups. Yahoo, Hotmail, Aol, Amazon, and almost every major site has aggressive marketing techniques such as pop-ups. Believe it or not, I have recently had surfers email me THANKING me for a certain pop-up window which I recently started in rotation. Totally blew my mind. |
