How long can a car sit before getting fucked up?

A friend wants to sell me his car it's been sitting in a closed garge for a long time can it get fucked up from sitting for like 2 years?

I don't think it's been ran in 2 years it's a 96 i'm sure the battery is dead and i don't know how long gas can sit in a tank before it gets rusted or whatever. what you think?? What else can get messed up from not being used...tires are still up anyway!!

A car can go bad if it sits even for six months. It all depends on the climate & if it's been maintained (ie started, moved, fluids checked/changed, etc.). The only way to tell is to check out first hand. If you're not car-knowledgable then find a friend who is.

PS: Be sure to check the tires too...

I dunno how long you can leave it sitting, but i do know if your gonna leave a car sitting for a long time your supposed to start it once a month, move it back and fourth to keep the oil seals and gaskets from drying out... but my guess would be the gas is syrup and the seals will be leaking, but im not a mechanic so take it for what it's worth.

Don't waste your time buying the piece of crap! I had a friend years ago "take care" of my car while I was overseas for just over one year......when I came back..he had bought a new battery...the color on the car had gone pale...shit just wasn't the same again!

I'd rather go to some dealership and buy a used car than buy one that's just been sitting there with no one taking care of it!

Just my :2 cents: worth!

What condition was it in before it was stored? My buddy's got a 1980 malibu that was stored in a garage for about 18 years.

When it came out of storage, it was almost like new.. brake lines had rusted, and needed replacement (which I helped him do practically for free). Battery needed replacement, Shocks needed work (which we never did, cause it's too expensive).

Overall, however, the car is a fucking classic, and despite the 18 years of sitting, ran very well.

Gas doesn't usually turn to syrup, it just seperates and fails to burn. 2 years is enough for gas to seperate, specially if the weather was bad.. but it's just gas. You can buy a new tank full for a few bucks. Top off the tank with fresh gas, and if you still have problems getting it to run, syphon the gas out, and put a fresh tank in.

It's a toyota 4x4 truck only has 25,000 miles on it he never used it but a few times a week just to go to the store or wherever....yeah you guys probably hate toyotas go ahead and laugh but it would be better than a mopad or is it?

what a piece of crap offcourse a car won't rot if it sits for 2 years at least not further than if you drive it...worsed case get new gass
and a new battery. If your car rots sitting it would also have rotten driving it...Just start her up and let it run for 15 minutes
without driving it so that the oil gets pumped around. Brakes
can get a bit rusty but nothing too bad....it's a car for fuck sake
at some dealers cars sit for 2 years before being sold.

If they ship cars from japan to the US they have been sitting
on boats trains, etc before finally getting to the dealer...
He's talking about a 96 model car....

I have a Toyota 1994 Toyota pick up.... and love it.... bought it used had 50,000 miles on it.... Got 180,000 now.... and runs like new.... I think Toyota makes great stuff. shit if your getting at a good price and have to put 1k or 2k the thing will last for 300,000 or more if you take care of it. My friend had a new Toyota and now has a new Chev. pick up and agrees with me.... my 1994 rides better than his New Toyota did and his New Chev. (big fucker) pick up..

I'd buy it if you are getting a good deal.... And being Toyota I bet you will be able to start the dam thing up and drive it home... with no worries.... just my :2 cents:
