Yahoo deleting Geocities sites

I just got this notice from Geocities... Apparently they were about ready to delete my first website, built in 1998. If you have anything there with sentimental value, better check it...

and if you send it to 15 of your friends, and they send it to 15 of their friends, Geocities will be forced not to delete any more websites....

Actually I thought it was a phishing email at first, but it's for real. They had actually suspended the site.

hehe i love going back looking at old stuff, it's like "wow what a fucking noob i was back then"

xclusive 05-15-2006 01:16 PM

Damn that sucks. I'll have to check if any of my old stuff is still there.

Ace_luffy 05-15-2006 01:21 PM

Screaming 05-15-2006 01:22 PM

Splum 05-15-2006 01:32 PM

web.archive.org has all your sites backed up :)

majorbitch 05-15-2006 01:35 PM

More like geoshities. Although I do remember having a site there around.. 1996. I'm pretty sure it's been deleted :P

L0rdJuni0r 05-15-2006 01:37 PM

that sucks i guess for people that have their free sites. i have always paid for mine....

ParkAvenue 05-15-2006 01:50 PM

Is that a NEW policy? I thought they already had a rule that if you didn't update within a certain period of time they deleted it.

madawgz 05-15-2006 03:15 PM

huh? why do they need to delete sites?

SilentKnight 05-15-2006 04:23 PM

Yahoo sucks. Always has...always will. They're among the ranks of organizations that embraces copyright infringement.

Swanks 05-15-2006 08:22 PM

yea those pricks owned one of my really old sites i made back when i was haxin up notepad . :(

AmeliaG 05-15-2006 08:36 PM

That seems like a kinda sucky thing to do. I wouldn't think they would need the diskspace, so I'm not sure what the advantage of deleting people's sites would be.

SomeCreep 05-15-2006 08:40 PM

I've never seen a geocities website that didnt like pure dog poop. They should delete them all.

pussyluver 05-15-2006 10:10 PM

You knew it was gonna happen someday. I can't remember all of them I did. Had a list, damn if I know what I did with it. Plus all those different email accounts...

RawAlex 05-15-2006 10:12 PM

It is the best thing that could happen... millions of useless pages flushed.

reynold 05-15-2006 11:41 PM

good thing i don't have any stuff in there but surely lots of people won't like it.

sex69 05-15-2006 11:52 PM

Some other free hosting services do the same. The point here is to get rid of stale and forgotten pages.
