4-letter domain value

What's your experience when it comes to 4-letter domains?

A good investment or a waste of time?

KRL 05-15-2006 03:26 AM

Good investment.

darksoul 05-15-2006 03:28 AM

waste.
if they had any value they would be taken.
But there are plenty of them unregistered.

But ofc, depends on the combination.

cranki 05-15-2006 03:32 AM

what about the combination FUCK? sounds weird, but could be a good investment...

My thought is that if you buy something that sounds like, or is, an abbreviation of something, there's more value to that than a randomized letter domain.

I managed to snatch that one this morning :thumbsup

Time will tell. I got a cool project in mind for that domain so either way it's not a waste of money. EDIT: It was available at GoDaddy this morning so it's not like I payed a fortune for that domain :thumbsup

There are so many people buying domains, even the shitty ones, you can usually resell for double to triple your investment for the reg fee.

Maybe not that much but check this out...

http://www.edbl.com/

$3950 asking price for that domain... quite insane. However, if the right buyer comes along, I'm sure he'll sell at that price. You can get far with a bit of luck.

Now that would be a sweet deal :thumbsup

Screaming 05-15-2006 07:17 AM

depends on what the 4 letters are.

Nicky 05-15-2006 07:24 AM

If the 4 letters are tzrq.com I wouldnt pay much for it but if it was trll.com or something I would :)

Taboo 05-15-2006 08:17 AM

too many factors to consider. I've sold some for < $1K a long time ago that I wish I held onto. but I've bought others for far more. but most of my 4 letters actually mean something.

i.e.
domain & concept:
DJHQ.com - "DJ HQ" for an online/offline company I'd like to launch someday.
TVHQ.com - online TV portal/aggregator w/ ugc-features.
InLA.com/InLosAngeles.com - "In LA" - LA news & local info - AMEX went out and bought IN-LA.com :)

plus I have a few others to use as abbreviations for my own longer domains. At one time I believe I owned several thousand, and I'm sure all of the ones I let go of years ago are gone now, except the ones with Z,Q,X,Y,etc :1orglaugh.

But my biggest regret in life is letting go of EBAY.com years ago.

How do yas feel about ones such as theses .com's:

4fuk
fuk7 (I also own fuk69)
afl4
atm6
bts9
cia7
dmv8
dod5
dud1
fed2
iou9
irs9
nfl5
nhl8
nsa4
pdq2
sux9
sxxx9 (five characters)
tbd4
tit6
yuk9

I many of the above cases, I own multiples (using different numbers at the end. Like dmv/irs/nfl, I tried to get letters people are familiar with--the added number sux, though.

In your opinion, what's the present worth of this sort of 4-character domains--$10 or $100 or $1,000, etc

Thanks for your opinions,

Dave Cummings
