Do you think that Napster is worth $8 Million?
Bertelsmann AG, abruptly shifting course, said Friday it would buy Napster Inc.'s assets in an $8 million deal
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/...in509071.shtml Personally, I don't think Napster is worth much at all. I don't think the company has any revenues currently besides maybe a few thousand dollars a month from selling advertising, and I don't see how they think they will ever generate much money from Napster in the future either. |
hell fuck no...there is no way anyone would want to pay for downloads considering all of the medians to download. The industry keeps having thoughts that there are a certain niche who is willing to pay for it....poor suckers..

Yes they are worth it just for their name alone. They have branded themselves and that's worth a lot of money.

Napster steals millions and millions of dollars of potential sales from the music industry, yet it has no real ability to see any of the money.
These file-share programs have got to go, and something official setup which costs money to use, and credits the artist. Say each song you download costs you .20 cents and the artist gets .19 with .01 going to the program. Now that penny would add up to huge coin and artists still make money at the same time. But the people in the music industry make tons of money already. They seem a bit greedy to me, so I don't feel guility to download to free songs. |
i think you're right loveasianchicks. bootlegging is getting way out of hand. i went to nyc last summer, you can find 5 guys selling any bootleg cd for $5 on any block in manhattan. the music industry does make a ton of $, but the artist doesnt make as much as you think they do. the bad part is, i dont see any stopping it in the near future.

to the right people napster would be worth a lot more than 8 million. talk about branding... wow... napster is pretty much synonymous with file trading and music piracy in popular culture (not just internet culture). my father in law isn't quite sure what an mp3 is but he knows that napster is/was used to get free music on the internet. I wonder how many typeins they get?
(LoveAsianChicks your WWW link looks strange to me) cheers |
it's not just about branding
think about all the users details they have for future marketing :) |

spanky - thanks, I just fixed it. :)
chodadog - my mistake, I meant .1899999 to the record company and give the artist .0000001 per download: |

These file sharing discussions always tick me off. To me, I downloaded a lot of songs from file sharing programs and yeah I've burned maybe 10 compilation cds in that time (lots of it old shit that I used to own on cassette), BUT I also bought a SHITLOAD of cds after seeing a music video somewhere or reading about a band, then heading to Morpheus & Napster to download the song and get it stuck in my head and also checking out other songs by the band and liking them enough to go out and drop the cash on the cd.
I have a collection of almost 1000 cds right now, I'd say that the record industry has seen a lot of money from me, he he he. |
File sharing programs are such a waste of time. They're OK if you want to download ONE song from an artist, but if you want to download an entire album, it will be a huge pain in the ass to find all the songs from the same rip. You'll most likely end up with 6 different rips of the same album all encoded in strange codecs. Either go buy the album like you should or try IRC.

I agree that poor releases and shitty artists have affected the music industry more than file sharing. But does anyone besides me think it's funny that here on an adult board where people make money off of licensed content in similar ways supports file sharing so wholeheartedly? I bet this same thread is going on on a password trading board right now. "I ain't paying for no damn porn, those fuckers are making a shitload already. Now gimme some passes or post those movies on Kazaa for me."
