Phone taps...how can one tell?

Echos...clicks...phone line not disconnecting right away after hang up. Comcast always sends out only one tech. Last time Comcast was here for "service" they came with two trucks and two guys. When I called today complaining about my service yesterday...today they again arrived in two trucks with two guys to check it out.

WTF.

Tell me its in my fucking head.

L0rdJuni0r 05-10-2006 04:51 PM

stop selling drugs then you wont have to worry :)

munki 05-10-2006 04:51 PM

Its your head.... calm down... put the tin foil hat away...

But it might be a good idea also to clear out the grow room just in case.

Young 05-10-2006 04:53 PM

I''m thinking if it is tapped. It must be the whole line on my street and it could be somebody else.

I have Comcast Digital Voice....when I have it hooked into the houses phone line and boxes....the echos clicks and delays occur. But when I hook the phone straight into the modem...they vanish and the phone is crystal clear.

AmateurFlix 05-10-2006 04:54 PM

there are devices available to check for that if you're really concerned. however I would think that modern phone tapping technology would be something beyond the indications of what you'd see in a movie from the 1960's... so you probably have nothing to be concerned about

I'm thinking that something screwed up. When the modem is hooked into the wall to feed the other jacks the phone is acting weird....almost like there is an open line. It only activates a couple of seconds after the dial tone...but doesn't hang up after you hang up the phone. I called techs and they come with 2 people....2 fucking people? they complain they are short of techs and they are coming with 2 people?

Okay, I have dealt with this question for over 30 years, so let me give you the same answer I give everyone.

Never say anything on the telephone that you would not want to see published on the front page of the LA Times.

If it is a legal wiretap, they have a search warrant and it is all done at the telephone companies central office. If it is illegal, just go outside and start looking for devices connected to your phone lines at the house.

thanks baddog. I was thinking that since the phone is VOIP and is through the modem that they would have to do it inside the house. They almost insisted that we hook the modem into the wall to feed the phone jacks. IT's not even necessary seeing that we have a cordless phone base that supports 4 phones.

I wondered why Comcast all of the sudden started to show up with 2 people....just raises my suspicion. I have nothing to hide though so I am not worried...I don't even fucking use the phone really. people only call it when my cell phone is off.

gimo33 05-10-2006 05:09 PM

just flush the evidence in the toilet... :)

madawgz 05-10-2006 05:16 PM

they dont have the right to tap your phone...

Splum 05-10-2006 05:17 PM

Haha only in the adult business can I find a thread with a title like this lol.

rowan 05-10-2006 05:21 PM

These days it's probably a few lines of code in a digital switch. In Australia a few years ago there were rumbles about ISPs being required to have data tap points where federal police can plug in and monitor everything, no doubt something similar exists for phone carriers.

BusterBunny 05-10-2006 05:41 PM

listen for muffled country music and masturbation in the background

Therein lies your problem. VOIP.

So your saying that when you bypass a component in your system everything works fine? Thats usually a symptom of a bad part, not that the govt is out ot get you.

Not true at all. There's a lot more criminals in other industries than online porn. Kids and keyboard warriors don't get into much real trouble.

Now if you go to the video side of adult that's a different issue.:1orglaugh

CyberHustler 05-10-2006 06:21 PM

back in the 80's my dad's phone was tapped and he would pic up the phone slow and put it to my ear and i could hear the narcs talking... they were dumb as shit back then

Spunky 05-10-2006 06:24 PM

I was told you can hear faint clicking sounds in the background

Linkster 05-10-2006 06:40 PM

See if you can find a chick that used to work as an operator for the telco - they can hear a tap from experience - and most that Ive run into are pretty hot :1orglaugh

BIGTYMER 05-10-2006 07:02 PM

Paro.......

KRL 05-10-2006 07:07 PM

There are some high end electronic gadgets that can detect if there is abnormal resistance in the line.

Best thing to do is to get a pro to do a full RF sweep. Odds are if your line is tapped your house has been wired also.

The wiring for the jacks has worked for the life of this house (10 years). The line is not closing...it's almost like something activates a couple of seconds after the dial tone...and does not let go of the phone line till about 10 minutes after the call is over.

There is a line open somewhere....tomorrow I escort Comcast through my house and watch them fix it. For the first time ever they were unable to give me an appointment time and will get back to me tomorrow because something that was on my ticket....the dude gave me no reason...WHAT THE FUCK.

Young 05-10-2006 07:10 PM

I wouldn't be suprised if the second comcast guy was a fucking narc making sure the real guy doesn't fuck shit up.

i'm hoping that im imagining this shit but things just aren't adding up.

AllStar 05-10-2006 08:48 PM

hmmm....well. If somebody is listening in there will usually be some noise. however if it is a legal wiretap, then it will be digitally recorded directly through the telco. You will not be able to hear it however it will be recorded and then listened to at a later time. However remeber this? have you ever dealt with the phone company and dealt with their superb customer service? Well imagine that same customer service hooking up the recorder. Hardly something to worry about unless you are a mob boss.

Choppa 05-10-2006 09:17 PM

god bless the FBI and CIA :thumbsup :1orglaugh

reynold 05-11-2006 12:59 AM

atleast you can hear some noise happening in the background and a little static sound.
