Does anyone know their family roots history?
Where is your family from?
My family is from Ireland, and Germany migrated to the US somewhere after the late 1890's Great Great Grandma who was irish, married a german here in the states... started having babies... German name is Wegner, Irish name is Dougherty not much more that I know... would like to find out more one day... |
my mom and grandfather have been figuring alot of the puzzle out the past 10 years. so far, i know that i am 25% Scottish. The other 75%, well...i know i have Italian, German and American Indian in me. Thats as much info that I've got so far. The %'s are unclear and what other nationalities I am are unclear right now.

All I know is im 1/4 Cherokee Indian and 3/4 Irish. I know my moms side of the family were Indian and my dads side was too but dad's father left when he was real young and we cant find any info on him so we are kinda stumped on anything else about us.

German/Swedish mix. Settled near Hanover Pennsylvania (pennsylvania germans, similar to pennsylvania dutch). Most of my ancestors went to the one room schoolhouse at the end of the road bearing my last name. Old family farm is still on the old family road. Family were abolitionists, always believed in rights of all people being equal, not based on color of skin or country of origin.
My mothers side were the Swedes and I know less about them. I know they settled near Salina, Kansas and the core of that family is still in that area. |
I am part dutch, german and scottish. My ancestors came to America in the late 1700's and early 1800's.
|
Scottish and American Indian. My great grandparents came over from Scotland, lived in Canada for a bit then migrated down. I have the family history around here somewhere I just can't remember it all.

My father died in Vietnam shortly after I was born, and I wasn't close to that side of the family. When I was twenty five I discovered I had a both a brother and a sister.
My Grandmother died two years ago, and much my surprise I discovered I was Irish. |
I believe its Sweden, Poland and Finland.

yep . . . father's side I am a direct descendant of William Penn, I am a 5th generation Californian, lots of cowboys.
Mother's side - all Irish |
I always thought I came from a long line of bootleggers and horse thieves, but I guess not..
My sis-in-law got crazy with genealogy and traced us back to County Down Ireland.. Came to New York in 1793.. (father's side).. She completed the entire lineage to date .. no broken links..She wrote a family book for us.. Pretty neat deal.. Mother's side was Cherokee.. |
Yes, why yes I do...
I'm 1/4 German...from that, half is Jewish (thus I only get to celebrate 1 day during Pesach) From there I am mostly Irish on both sides of my paternal grandparents. Some from the county of Cork and some from Cavan. Most of these came over during the famine era. The furthest back we've traced is one of the illegitimate sons of William the Conqueror. After that I'm mutted up like a big dog with a mix of: Scottish, Dutch, English, Greek, Russian (more potential ashkenazim blood rumored here, but not confirmed), Italian and French. Bottom line I guess is that my relatives like foreign stuff, as do I. :) PS: I'm not as native as Baddog but I'm also a 3rd generation Californian, more precisely from the County of the Angeles. :thumbsup |
some people in my family had a root the rest is history!!!
|
8th Generation American. My roots are from W.Virginia.

i've done some work on my family history. i can trace my grandmother's side to Ireland, coming to US in 1762. Unfortunately, his name was James Kelley, one of the most popular names in Ireland at the time. Hard to go back before that.
Media- icq me if you need some tips on researching, i've got some good sources. |
