Just got home from the studio with DJ Quick ... AMAZING NIGHT!
 

All I have to say is WOW!

Never been a huge fan but Quick REALLY IS AMAZING and i am NOW!

My boy manages an artist by the name of Brother J who came up with a hugely popular group from NY (in the early 90's) called X-Clan. J is very well respected and admired by many artists in the rap industry and has pretty much earned legendary status so all these contemporary platinum selling artists and producers now want to work with him on his new release and other than DJ Quick - there are a few LARGE ONES you all know of but I can't talk about it until they actually do! :winkwink:

Anyway, it was pretty cool watching them work together piecing together this new track. From creating beats, to layering in live bass guitar and multiple additional beats all created on the fly, with scratches and the vocals - it was an incredibile feeling/vibe. I really witnessed some cool live art!

... and i learned a ton about DJ Quick too - MAD RESPECT - he's a tremendously talanted and musically diverse multi-platinum rap artist and producer that's worked with and helped create hits for a lot of different artists including 2Pac and Snoop! I was watching him as he came up with ideas for new beats add ons after J laid the vocals and it was like he was some mad scientist coming up with some HOT SHIT - what a fuckin' fun experience - can't wait to hear it on the radio some day!

Now i want a studio in my house!

Of course these products probably can only do so much due to the fact that once it's mixed down you have to mess with the frequencies which can alter the sound of the music. Hopefully his can do it clean but it will be hard.

yea i figured. ALL of those voice "removal" just tune down certain frequencies. Basically they REDUCE vocals.

What quik was working on was totally removing vocals. Ive been to a shit load of studios and havnt seen such a thing ever. And i doubt someone like Quik would waste years trying to develope something that already exists :2 cents:

exactly! what he was trying to do was totally wipe out the vocal (which will distort the music in one way or another) then restore the music as close to the original as possible without the vocal. At the same time automate as much of it as possible.

I've almost booked him for the Players Balls. He had bad management before, not sure if he switched since then.

He's a legend, I'm a big fan. He's a genius.

I love to watch these guys in the studio, I've had the pleasure of watching a few artists create magic, including Too $hort's last album and Eek-A-Mouse.
