Thumbnail question
Ok, so there are a lot of TGPs and MGPs that require you to submit a preview thumbnail. Problem is, they want a high quality thumbnail BUT low in KBs. When I make thumbs that are high quality they, most of the time, end up being to big in file size. So I drop the quality to make the file size smaller, but they end up looking like shit. what advice do you have to make high quality preview thumbnails.
here are some size for example 80x80 88x88 100x100 110x110 115x115 120x120 90x120 100x120 100x130 100x133 100x135 100x140 110x150 115x150 120x100 120x110 120x160 135x180 150x200 120x90 130x96 130x100 133x100 140x110 160x120 180x135 These are the size that the tgps/mgps that I submit to require. |
oh, I normally use Corel Paint Shop Pro 10 to make the thumbs.. I manully crop and all the other shit. I do have Photoshop though
bump..........
I should have made this a "would you hit it (PIC)" thread or a fake drama thread. Would probably have gotten way more views haha
Scripts make real hq thumbs and well compressed ones... imagemagick can produce better images than photoshop or any other image manipulating program.. good example is smart thumbs.
Good script example is smart thumbs... and the link to imagemagick is www.imagemagick.org worth a read.
ok, going to check that out
hmm how the fuck do I set this thing up on my server lol
I downloaded ImageMagick 6.2.7.5 (.zip) extracted it to a folder on my hard drive and read the Quickstart.txt file and I'm lost haha
ok, I found ImageMagick that runs on windows xp.. That may do, I think
hmm.. the windows based one seems to lack some things
not being able to resize a pic for example.. it lets me crop, chop flip, flop, rotate left and right, shear, trim edges and roll. No way to set the size though.
Just use Photoshop and save the image for web. It will not take more than 4-6KB for 90x120 very quality thumb.
ok, going to make some test thumbs with photoshop and do what you sai
agreed - i use photoshop for all my thumbs, fix up actions to resize and save in different sizes so I have to make less initial new images, and always use save-for-web (aLT+F+W)
set image quality to 50 and you're good to go |

here's a test thumb made with photoshop
120x120 (save for web - quality 60 - file size 3kb) http://www.legalbarely.com/642-150.jpg |
if I sharpen the image it makes the size like 7kb or though
and I have a logitech g15 keyboard so I can program the G keys (G1 through G18) to do specific things) so I set G1 to Save For Web in Photoshop and G2 is set to Image Size. Will make things a little easier. I will add more things, but for now those 2 will do.
