Anti-Spam message board
 

Do you guys think it could be a good idea to make an anti-spam message board ...

When you would receive spam messages, you would only have to make a topic on a board, where you would make a screenshot of the ad, you would copy/paste the infos of the e-mail + the infos of the host where the site the spammer site is hosted, etc.

Making a big community would be really cool...if a lot of anti-spammers would do this process on the board, a lot of spammers would go down because the host/bandwith providor could not handle all the complaints...

What do you guys think about that?

I am making plans to make this project online...

good or bad idea?

I also think that it would be better than only making a blacklist, like a lot of anti-spammers group does, because its easy to by-pass this technology.

Doiing it by mass-reporting would be way better ...in my opinion.

You can also ruin A LOT of peoples reputation doing that... I could go right now to your site,find your sponsor,send it to myself and take a screenshot of it making you look like a spammer...Good idea but the con's out weigh the pro's...Plus I think you want to keep quiet when reporting a spammer don't you think? Make a Pokemon board,I'm down for that....

nocostporn: That is why the big spammers never get down. If everyone would know that they were spamming, they would not be able to spam again because no one would want to sell them bandwith.

About the reputation thing, you know, a board is where people can discuss things...so if they would want to discuss about their issue, they would be able + the board would be moderated...so if they prove that they are not spamming, I would only delete the topic from the board + I would add them to a non-spammer list, so everyone would know that they are not spammers. Simple as that.

Its funny how people react when others try to help the community.

It's hard to control spamming especially when your webmaster signup in fo is being sold everyday..Everyone will have your email address eventually.. The way I look at it is it's part of the biz..

Maybe, but by fighting them, omnly the big players will be able to find a way to spam...and the small ones will die. That way, everyone will get less spam, even if they receive some here and there...

Thats why way of thinking ...

it's called buying your own box and hosting yourself...Go ahead and make a board lol...Like i said..If i don't like somebody I will take their referral codes and spam myself with them...I'm not the only person that would do that either...when you report spam,you do it so the spammer doesnt know they are being reported and have time to adjust...

Not sure I like your way of thinking. How do you think the "big players" got started? And now you wanna help them stop others from making it? What community do you think you're helping anyway? Most of the emails I receive are due to viruses on other ppls computers. After that, it's the "make money fast" type thing. After that comes the adult stuff. If you *really* wanna help me, please stop viruses.

this won't work. people will start using this board as a revenge tool. moreover, the admin will get a nice load of attorney letters once an innocent site is posted as a "spammer". you'd better have a fire-resistant ass because you're gonna get lots of heat :Graucho

not to mention that a vicious spammer that gets exposed will simply forge a few lines in a message source, report you to spam cop and you're dead meat.

spam is part of this business. you'd better get used to it and let the gov't take care of it.

It's bad because it annoys people. It's good because it makes big $$$. But mainly, I'm against spamming because I don't do UCE myself. I still try to spam search engines, tho :)

What annoys me the most is when "the big players" do a deal with the likes of level3 or global crossing and spam the shit outta everyone with complete immunity.

If you, Rod, set yourself up as some kind of judge (and jury and executioner), you'll get nothing but headaches. And for what? Even if "adult" spam stopped completely, we're still drowning in non-adult spam.

I think the best idea so far - and most effective - is the Realtime blackhole list. It works! It's all we need! And the guys and gals that run it are (they hope, at least) impossible to sue because no one knows who they are. What's some message board against that??

Edit: I should add that I have been accused of spamming AFF and they refused to send me my check for about $6K until I got them on the phone and explained that they are a pack of idiots for believing some moron saying I have spammed. I had not spammed, and I did get my check. Didn't much like being dragged thru that, tho. Another reason why I personally prefer spam to be fought from the other direction (source rather than target. Too easy to fake otherwise).

any attempt to stop spam will NOT work. and yes i am accusing a lot of the "big players" of spamming and supporting spam. i could name off present and past clients of spammers that i know, that post here and other places or are just vocal about being anti-spam, that have solicited and paid for spam traffic. so pull your head out your ass i say again and wake up, realize that spam will never stop, its pointless to worry about it, so forget it. its one fucking click on the "delete" key, you are aware of where that is at right?

and i also agree with nocostporn in the fact that if you had an anti spam board it would be about 80% hypocrits trying to act like they dont really like spam, and the other 20% would be spammers trying to report other spammers. and then there would be you! the lone dipshit, who thought he could stop spam in some way.

whole ISP, hosting companies, and affiliate programs have been built on spam traffic.

oh yeah!

i forgot to mention all the $500k+ houses and bmw's that spam traffic has bought too.

everyone loves spam.
