Program Owners and Sponsors...give me a minute of your time

I came across a site that will remain nameless forever. I will not give the URL.

The site "encourages" their users to sign up for $1 trials...entices them with incentives lets say. /Besides stressing that it is only a $1 trial...the site in no way encourages the surfer to cancel after the trial is up.

Is this ok? Is there anything wrong with this?

need a fucking answer mannnnnnnn

The wording sounds shady, it should have some disclaimer on the page to tell them they are going to be rebilled.

just my :2 cents:

It's sites like this that led us to a 1% cieling on rebills.

Tam 05-09-2006 10:27 PM

It is shady in my opinion. There should always be something that tells them they will be rebilled at the end of a Trial and the amount they will be billd.

And as long as we are on the subject, there should be a thing on there if the trial is a limited access one as well. But this is just my opinion. :)

How about if it was made clear that there would be a rebill? Actually encouraging them to stay with the site?

This is more curiousity then anything else.

I agree it's a bit shady. IMO honest business retains better.

it's a little misleading but ... providing enticements to have them keep their acount ... until they rebill .. is fine.

the billing company is going to require the paysite to disclose to the surfer that the transaction will rebill so the affiliate doesn't really need to do that. and if they are willing to take extra time to help the paysite retain ... by providing additional enticements... more power to them.

ps... my program doesn't offer trials so my opinion is just that ..and not really a corporate position.

Who is their processor? Most processors wont let them get away with that.... they may have their our merchant account I guess...

How so? I only took a second to look at the front page of the site. They don't give you a peek inside but I can imagine that they are pretty clever about how they have the members sign up, and where they place the links relative to their site.. unless they have informed their sponsors of what they are doing.

Oh well...just a little something to get some convo going. I'm pooped. Time to hit the hay.

they could possibly have a Merchant Account...its definately shady and known in some circles as "failure to omit"

Honest business retains within the business.

The porn industry is a gigantic merry go round. Magazines discovered it decades ago and the video industry soon caught on.

Porn is not a one off impulse buy, it's a regular purchase. The impulse is the title the consumer buys this month. Yes a percentage will buy one brand and stick to it, but in general the buyer has little brand loyalty.

The way some in this section of the porn industry go about ripping off surfers achieves one thing. It drives people to looking at free porn.

Until affiliates and sponsors realise that a fast buck today is a lost buck tomorrow, we will always have the VAST majority of surfers refusing to pay for porn.
