If it goes through it may intially be on a voluntary basis. Eventually it will become mandatory. After this happens the entire online porn industry will have to be completely re-wired so to speak.

Think about it...your back links, reciprocal links, sponsor links, every gallery and free site ever submitted to your TGP or link list, not to mention your search engine positions etc. EVERYTHING...ALL GONE!

Let your voice be heard!

Because it will be a lot easier for ISP and other companies to block.xxx and anyoen base doutside of the USA can still use .com but people in the US will be shit out of luck

mattz 05-08-2006 12:01 PM

so anyone in the us will be required to have .xxx for adult materials?

split_joel 05-08-2006 12:02 PM

okay I completly understand now, but if your in the US can you not simply move your stuff offshore? I am ot saying you should have to do that and I think that what there doing is way fucked up but if it comes down to that can u do that?

1. Ghettos are bad, mmkay.
2. Not enforceable world wide thus giving the US a trade disadvantage.
3. To easy for special interest groups to lobby against assorted ISPs to make .XXX access available by request only.
4. Unfair to those that registered .coms .nets and such early on in the business.
5. Who gets the .xxx the .com owner, the .net owner, the .org owner, or whomever grabs it first?
6. Engines could and may be forced to cap listing results so that .xxx only appears in pornographic keywords only. Possibly no listings at all if the default filters are left in place.
7. Possible premium yearly rate on domain registrations and renewals.
8. Possible US taxes on .xxx registrations and renewals. Think a sin tax.
9. It accomplishes nothing that a kids safe tld could or would. A kids safe tld could be made safe from day one with no back peddling or downsides, and just as easily be set for safe browsing.
10. There is no real definition on what pornography really is and therefore without a definition who is to say what belongs there and what other types of content would be slowly pushed in that direction.

Remember there's no such thing as a stupid question.

It won't matter what country you live in, ICANN can enforce it at the registry level and have adult domains permanently deactivated so they don't resolve or make the registrars do it on a complaint basis ie, like GoDaddy does for spammers and they charge the card-on-file a $199 fee for having to do it.

This will hurt webmasters and domain owners the most. Hilariously enough the actual pornographers will be the least affected.

will not be a good thing

split_joel 05-08-2006 12:43 PM
