Uncredited "Webmasters click here" links on free hosted galleries

Robbing the affiliate of a potential referral or a fair compromise for the program designing and hosting the gallery? Discuss.

"Robbing the affiliate of a potential referral"

polish_aristocrat 05-07-2006 09:45 AM

the only robbing in this biz is shaving

in this case nothing truly wrong with it, you should promote the program judged on how well it does for you and not based on how they run their webmaster referral program

spacedog 05-07-2006 10:06 AM

fair compromise for the program designing and hosting the gallery?

Sponsors use this hoping the surfer clicks it, then goes to the site list, & then joins a different site. :winkwink:

I think the most plausible explanation for webmaster links being on a gallery is to gain some more affiliates.

But galleries are directed to surfers, not webmasters.

I have noticed this before too. Xpays and a few other credit webmasters in the "Webmasters Click here" links but most do not.

I know a few webmasters have lost some good money for programs I've signed up for because of this.

When I'm hunting down (thumb) trades I'll often see new girls and check out the galleries to see if the sponsor is worth signing up for.

Some sponsors overdue it, both with far too large 2257 links and links to the webmaster programme.
If my referral code is not in the latter, I'll dump the sponsor.
If the 2257 link is too big, I'll dump him, too.

Sort of your own personal decision...

isn't it a widely known fact that FHGs are made to brand the site and not
to make you money ?

SmokeyTheBear 05-08-2006 12:18 AM

dont get mad get even. i noticed adult.com has their webmaster links with no ref code so i built a tool to attach them

heres a typical realitycash fhg , notice the webmasters link at the bottom with no ref code

http://galleries.adult.com/reality/t...katie/mpgs002/

ok now heres my version thats been "smokeyized" , the gallery is not on my server it is created on the fly and rewritten with my ref code attached to the webamster id , then i also added a "radnom" fhg link on the bottom of the page with my ref code on it :) nice eh ..

problem - solution :) of course it would be nice if i didnt have to do that myself , but hey it inspired me to add something better to it besides just that right :)

Yeah, this is a pretty cool idea, but you may run into probs with link hotten protection, or licensing agreements (a couple of sponsors have told me I can't copy and re-serve their FHGs since the content is not licensed to my domain)

Wouldn't it have been better for them to realise it's an issue with affiliates and change the FHGs accordingly? :Graucho

VIPimp 05-08-2006 01:57 AM

If the program has a wm ref program, then those links should be coded with the affiliate id.

I have stopped putting webmaster links on hosted gals, if a wm really wants to see the program he will just follow the gallery links to the tour and will see it on the bottom of the tour.

Rictor 05-08-2006 02:13 AM

I'd like to see referral codes in the 2257 links too. You know they have to be a traffic leaks.
