Biz Discussion: VOD software, build, buy, or borrow?

I want to add VOD to Lightspeedtv.com and Lightspeeddvds.com, but I need the software first.

So I have 3 options:

1) Build my own VOD software system
2) Buy an existing VOD software system
3) Lease and/or whitelabel a VOD software system

Who has experience with this? What makes the most sense and why? I'm interested in your opinions, and I'd like to hear recommendations on what available systems are the best.

Videopasscash had a system for sale I believe through http://www.prodinix.com/site/ and their site was doing real well before they sold it, don't know what the status of it now is but it seemd a decent setup.

I'd think with the amounts of traffic your network sees that a custom solution wouldn't be as much an economic strain as it would be on smaller problems, and would be easier to tailor to your specific needs.

An out of box solution might not cater to everything you would want.

... but what do I know... I've only worked with mainstream VOD situations, and have dabbled very little when it comes to adult in this specific field.

Steve

It depends on what you want to do as for VOD. I would not go with the build option, we got 26 developers in staff whos full time job is to work on the VOD software. http://www.objectcube.com/customers.html is our client list.

I am more then happy to get on the phone and walk you through all the options, this is my 5th year in the VOD space.

Steve the best thing for you to do is white label a solution.

The cost of developing your own is just enourmous, Adult Rental has been in development for a year and we are changing and tweaking the backend each week.

Purchasing your own - Why spend all that money when all you want to do is stream your own movies. Adult Rental can have a custom White Label setup for you within a week with your look and feel and only your movies in place for the same cost to you as it would be to run the software. Nevermind paying for the intial investment of the software.

Adult Rental hosts everything, we process everything, It's your VOD solution, you manage the look, the feal, the cost, the message, what movies you want to feature, you handle all the creative aspects.

However we do create you an intial design, but you can change that as you wish.

If you want Steve I can get on the phone with you and you can ask me any question you want.

Any affiliate programs out there that have REALITY STYLE content available we want your content to add to Adult Rental "and / or" create a white label for you.

here is our sample white label theatres we have created for clients

Those graphics are 100% done by us, we will take care of everything for you.

Steve what's up, Light Speed Dodgeball really kicks ass, it kicked my ass, or atleast the shots did...

here are some things to consider for VOD.

for options 1 and 2 you would haveto do all your own encoding...

1) Build my own VOD software system - staff for building VOD system.

2) Buy an existing VOD software system - staff for customizing your VOD system to your needs.

3) Lease and/or whitelabel a VOD software system - most cost effective.

Solution:

Have XonDemand see sig below, whitelabel a VOD system for you. lightspeedvod.com or anything you want.

have your own exclusive content on your whitelabel only. we will encode all your videos in windows and real media formats.

if you promote your own content you will make the studio commission plus the affiliate commission...

our co'brand whitelabel will allow Lightspeed to have lightspeedvod.com and all sales that happen will be reported to you and your affiliates can get paid for creating sales on your lightspeedvod.com

so let's say that you get your own VOD site and promote it. maybe make 75% recurring.

now let's say that you put your vod site on your lightspeed exit console. ALL of lightspeed affiliates that send traffic to lightspeed will get credit for any and all sales that come from lightspeedvod site. we can pass any information including webmaster refer.

XonDemand can offer 15 free minutes and free hosted movie content... see sig..

VOD + Free 15 minutes and free hosted movie content = conversion.

VOD + non-rebilling = retention.

VOD is here to stay...

Apple Itunes is to music what VOD is to Video.

see sig...
