Speaking only of California:

It is illegal to purchase from government regulated stores called "Cannibus Club" if and only if you have a doctors perscription.

As for growing it, i dont think you can grow for personal use, perscription or not.

Go to Amsterdam.

Alaska - You could have under 4 ounces or something for personal use. Not sure how they expected you to get it legally though lol.

Pay $200/year for a perscription and its legal in California.

...and you dont need a real reason, in newspapers there's ads for "Compassionate Doctors" which basically means they write them for anybody with the money to pay.

in canada you can have a certain amount and you wont get a criminal record they will just take it away...unless your growing lots and selling it nobody really cares

Some of you posting about how it is in California have no clue.

Enlighten us then

1. It is not really legal, it is some what tolerated at the state level. Federally it is still just as illegal. The feds will still prosecute.
2. A prescription lasts for as long as the doctor rights it for. A good doctor will set you up for at least 4 years. According to the laws a prescription can be written and or verbal. Federally though a doctor can have his or her license yanked for writting them.
3. None of the cannibus clubs are Government regulated. The state was supposed to get into this and provide some regulation, distribution, and so forth but this has never came to pass.
4. You will not find a real limit on how much you can buy or grow, it is still all a very grey area. Oakland though seems to have the greatest handle on it as far as local laws regarding amounts go.

It will never be legalized in Canada..You just get a slap on the wrist for anything significant

Canada did de-criminalize marijuana a few years ago ... posession now does not carry a criminal conviction, unless the amounts are large enough to suggest possession of purpose of trafficing ...

In Montreal, posession is like a $38 fine only .. and most cops will not cite you for the paperwork involved is not worth their time ...

It was gonna be decriminalized in Canada under the Liberals, but now that Harper and his conservitive bunch have got in power, Harper say they will not be going ahead with the decriminalized of weed
they even said that people that were exempt would be arrested. Heard it on the news a couple weeks back
