WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Capitol Police is investigating how officers handled an auto accident involving Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-Rhode Island, and whether the evidence would support traffic charges.

The investigation also will look into whether proper procedures were followed in the initial probe of the crash, which happened early Thursday, a police statement said.

Kennedy, son of Sen. Ted Kennedy, said Thursday he was apparently disoriented by medication when he crashed his car into a barricade on Capitol Hill.

I hate it when peope assume something. He said it was from Ambien and another drug, which is plausible, though no alcohol test is suspect, but you assume he was drunk with no evidence.

I assume it's because of the legendary drinking exploits that run in the family.:pimp

It's a little known fact to be considered a true Kennedy you need to maintain an alcohol level of .15 at all times.

It's not politics. I'm tired of people assuming things without all the facts. There is no real evidence he was drunk. You and the media just assumed it. He may have been drunk, but he's innocent until proven guilty.

What's to assume? Was he was driving while fucked-up or not? What, just because he said it wasn't alcohol everything is OK?

He normally drives like this? Or was he driving under the influence of alcohol OR drugs? ... Keep it a yes/no question. And yank his fucken license!

I didn't say it was ok. I'm just arguing with the title of this thread and all the innuendos that he was driving drunk without proof or hard evidence. Everyone just automatically assumed it. There are a lot of prescription drugs out there that can make you appear drunk. I think they should have given him a breathalizer, but they didn't and therefore there's no proof. I'm upset at the media for jumping on everything political with little evidence and assuming something. Even non-political, there are a lot of people that are targeted by the media, smeared and they end up innocent. Just because someone "appears" drunk doesn't mean they are drunk.

On another note, "innocent until proven guilty" This will NOT apply to Kennedy since a political decision was made to NOT give him a sobriety test OR drive him to a hospital for a blood test.

Now we have to ASSUME because his status makes him above the laws and procedures you and I are accountable to.

Don't be naive. Based on his special treatment, if he was capable of passing a breath test cops at the scene would have been instructed to have him take one.

There's even a band named after drunk Kennedys !!!

"appeared to have been drinking" was on the police report .. GOT THAT? Not my opinion, from the police report. And he still was not tested!

It was one of the many reasons he should not have been driven home instead of jail ...
