So A Bolt Of Lightning Hit My House Last Night...

It totally fried my Sky Plus box and now today I finally come to my office to work and my PC is fucked. My modem was plugged into my computer via usb and its fried all my USB ports.

I just called Dell to see what I could do to get this fixed, waiting on them getting back to me.

This sucks balls, my house insurance will cover the damage but I just hope it doesn't take too long to get things fixed.

BoyAlley 05-05-2006 09:10 AM

You can get surge protection for cable, when I moved to Florida, I bought all new supression to prevent just that type of problem.

Of course, that doesn't help you now.

Good luck on a speedy recovery!

RogerV4 05-05-2006 09:12 AM

Nah no pics, but man the lightning was crazy. Fun to watch... or at least it was till I heard a huge bang then all power to my house went out.

Manowar 05-05-2006 09:28 AM

Sosa 05-05-2006 09:39 AM

My main machine is connect directly to my modem via USB. Then my LAN from my modem is connected to my Wireless router.

E$_manager 05-05-2006 10:05 AM

so you can't switch it off?

I probably live in the flatest area in my town LOL

I have no idea how it happened, but I just had to go buy a PCI card to get my desktop computer working again. Still need to get it fixed properly. Dell are onto it tho, should be done pretty soon!

I should have unplugged my computer from the wall and the modems. It was silly on my part, but like you say it was crazy, and I just didn't think it would ever happen to my house.

Vitasoy 05-05-2006 10:45 PM

reynold 05-11-2006 05:08 AM

I'm sorry to hear about your experience but good thing is that you're ok.

Ross 05-11-2006 09:44 AM

My computer is all fixed up and on its way back to me. Should get it tomorrow afternoon. Cost $700 tho, fucking Dell know how to get money outta people.

They wouldn't sell me the motherboard I needed, so I had to send it so their engineers would install it and charge me per hour for labour. Fuckers.

minusonebit 05-11-2006 10:36 AM

Better back up your HDD just in case. This happened to my Dad, lightening hit the AT&T Broadband cable thing and his hard drive died just a few days after they thought everything was fixed. Better safe than sorry.

Spyce 05-11-2006 10:38 AM

Doesn't that just suck! You never think your house will get hit by lightning... glad your computer's on it's way back and working.
