Was college/university a WASTE of time and money for you?
It took me 6 years ( i went part time few semesters) to get my degree in Psychology and BCIS (Business Computer Info Systems) Total cost was around th 65;70 thousand dollar range. I took out loans n shit and almost paid em up.
Now the social factor involved was good , educational factor I do not believe was worth the $$$ |
im on year 5 and i love it :)
One of my professors said in the 2nd year of college, "We are here to teach you how to think. Not give you a vocation".
I would say that's the biggest thing I took from college. An outlook on life I did not have before, and the critical thinking skills more than anything. Things I picked up from school help me daily, but I went for communications, mass media in college. While helpful, it doesn't nessesarily help me so much in the porn business. Although there are some minor things in dealing with people (models) and other psych things that are helpful. I am not sure I needed to drop $50k to learn those things. However, I would say on the overall, it was money well spent. The degree opened a lot of doors when I first got out, and into corporate world. :2 cents: |
Um yeah, 10 years, 5 majors and no degrees! I did have a really good time though. :)
I think its completely worth it Juicy. Sure the social factor is great, and I think the educational factor is worth more than we sometimes realize. It's not only about 'what' we learn but that we learnt 'how' to learn, how to interact on different levels with other people, professors, other students, leading teams, doing research and presentations, etc... I did a double honours degree in Sociology and Spanish (which I thought was pretty useless in the real world, but it really interested me). I ended up moving to Spain, doing my international MBA here, and getting a job with a great company where I get to use all the tools I have accumulated over the years. I think education is always a good investment if you put it to good use :2 cents: :thumbsup

are you kidding me? It was worth every penny, I also did it part time, to pay for it I was waitering 7 days a week, I DO NOT REGRET doing it AND NEVER WILL !!!!!
it feels like a waste of time right now...
I have certificate on journalism from New York College here in Athens. Hmmm I just learned some things to see them in many ways... and search behind scenes all time ;)
waste of both time and money. if i had to go back i woulda taken different classes.
worth every penny...was also the most fun 4 years I have ever had. you can't buy back being 18 -22 yrs old , partying like a maniac, and having the time of your life.
oh ya and the learning part was important also lol |
I'll let you know when I am done. But I can tell you one thing... that Anthropology Book they made me buy WAS NOT worth $200.
was a waste for me because I went to a shitty ass community college and just got an associates degree.
It's not a waste of time. I just wish I study harder before. :)
The critical thinking and communication classes are def worth it.
i am still studing in one of the top business universities in our country. I want to have a degree if adult industry will fall like Rome did :)
Feels like it right now :helpme
Hell no. I learned how to pop open a beer with a lighter :)

fuck ya..thats funny. I always say thats proof I went to college when i open beers like that. I was put to shame when I did a year abroad in Denmark and the college kids there opened 2 beers off each other at the same time. It was pretty sweet, guess they were working on Ph.d s or something |
best time of my life
Social Factor of College was awesome! .. I wanna go back! .. If Only I Knew what I knew today .. I'd be the College Campus Pimp .. Oh wait I was !
I guess things don't change |
big ups York University
wicked times, wicked people |
Psych classes are nice... everyone should learn how to play with other people's heads and become more manipulative.
hell yeah it was worth it, i learned how to funnel ;)
Yes, iwill need 2 years instead of 5 to complete the highschool and not to waist time on hanging around.
No special friends, no special knowledge in my PR. I'd better go to courses. |
I went and still going to the University of Life, formal education was never my forte:winkwink:
one of the best educational and cultural experiences of my life...besides stealing my first car
It depends on your chosen profession. It's not worth it for any of mine but for things like Financial services and education it's a necessity.
just graduated last year and I think it was definately worth the time and money
yeah. that's for sure

I'm shocked at some of the answers here, some of you are actually quite educated. And no, that anthropology book was definitely NOT worth $200..
i went for just over 1 month before i decided that it was the worst thing i've ever done. i hated every moment about it and everyTHING about it. the whinny college students, the teachers that talked to us like we're morons that cant understand english, the almost 2 hour bus ride to AND from the college, the fact that i was paying for all of this 100% on my own and out of my own pocket, sitting in a classroom thats 120 degrees in August, the fact that you had to walk a mile to get to where you needed to be....several times a day. And also that i had no clue what i wanted to go to school for (i was just takin basic classes). It was just too much for me. So I figure, being self employed is the best way to go. :)

The University of Miami was very, very good to me. Even if it WAS so far back in time that the football team had not become the powerhouse that they are now! :P
I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! Fitz |
I am now in university
I up and joined the Army after high school. I got a real education. I traveled to new and exciting lands, met new and exotic people and killed them.
the only thing i learned in highschool was English.
5 years... could have spent my time in a more productive way :)

college cant, and never will, teach you LIFE and how to survive. want life skills? live life. you want to learn chemistry? Then go to college. college teaches what books tell them to teach. life doesnt. |

I never viewed college as 'job training'. Learning a vocation is a minor 'side benefit' to obtaining a proper education IMO. The education itself can help you succeed in many areas of life other than simply getting a paycheck and watching how big the numbers printed on it are. |

I don't regret it one bit. It was helpful socially and also provided a good education and networking opportunities.

It was a waste of my time.
College helps train you to work for someone..which was something I was never good at. |

what to say more than here comes a bump!

I still have 1 year left and I can't wait for it to be over.
I kept going to school despite my business growing simply as a backup in case this business went under. Its also nice to have credentials behind your name as a university graduate, people do take you a little more seriously than a drop out. It was worth it in my case.

It also took me 5 years, but it definitely helps me. Well, I have to admit it was a great time. And now when I have my first offline job my education earns me the money.

Anyone that thinks college was a waste of time and money obviously didn't do it right. I learned a shit load. My math skills are 10x better. I know more about the history of the world. I got certified in CPR and Adult First Aid. I learned how to seperate elements in science. I learned how to make moonshine. I learned how to sell things. I learned more about personalities and reading people. The list goes on.
College doesn't train you to work for somone at all. If you work for someone and you are not self employeed, that is your own choice. I went to college and have been self employeed for over 5 years now. And I haven't even gotten into all the social events. Road trips to see friends in other schools, football games, beer bongs, triping out on acid, freedom from parents, my first apartment, picking up chicks in class, getting stoned with friends on the way to philosophy class, having a fridge for a keg, becoming one of the best fooseball players on campus, vandalizing the greek village and most importantly FUCKING all those hot 18 - 22 year old horny chicks. I did college right. Got educated with books and had a blast with my friends. Best years of my life. |
