I Lost Another Friend Today
 

For the second time in less than a month, a close friend has died. His name was John Nielson, age 37. I?ve known the guy for 15 years?he was pretty much ?the forth testicle? in Dick Delicious. The guy co-produced, engineered, and mixed every Dick Delicious album. He also mixed Smashing Pumpkins, Driving and Crying, Corrosion of Conformity, and Matchbox 20.

Outside of recording we remained good friends because of our mutual interests in Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica.

Apparently, John just died in his sleep from natural causes at his home this week. Unlike a lot of people that die young (outside of an occasional beer or bong hit) John didn?t party. The only thing he cared about was recording good sounding music. That was what he lived for.

All of this has me taking a hard look at my life? Maybe it?s time to chill on all of the drugs, drinking, and philandering. If I died tomorrow, would it really surprise anyone?

Probably not.

This one certainly shocked me.

You?ll be missed John.

I have had a run of them as well and they too have all been too young.

It certainly makes you take a look at your own life :(

Sorry to hear that man. I couldn't imagine losing a good friend especially at such a young age. My condolences to you, his friends and family.

It's pretty fucked up becasue the dude barely drank, didn't smoke cigerattes, didn't do hard drugs, wasn't sick...and he just wakes up dead.

I don't see how dying at 37( which I am by the way ) is natural causes. It's not "natural" to die at 37. He must have had some heart problems or maybe an aneurysm or some other undiagnosed health problems.

Damn Jay, that's shitty!!!!. Really sorry to hear about your loss... At least you guys had alot of killer times together and he went out in his sleep rather than something more tragic or traumatic.. He may be gone, but he won't be forgotten!!!
