For those of you who bought domain names when it was 99$/year
do you still have to pay that much per year?
or do you pay what they are offering now? |
im guessing at the time you renewed it, you payed the current rate?
|
no you wouldnt have to
|
Domains can be easily transferred to another, cheaper registrar
|
I paid $100 a year via Netsol and, in fact, have an invoice in front of me from June 29, 1996 when I had to renew my domain for $100. "Internic" was the name, of course. It was lowered to $70 for 2 years after a while. I still have few domains there and while they advertise them for $35 per year, I pay about the same as I'd pay at GoDaddy.
Back then we had to wait a month for the site to be added and the DNS to work. Oh yeah, bandwidth was $12.50 a gig, too. |
12.50$/gig?!?!?!? what the fuck :|

Back then The Hun listed backdoors in paysites, not galleries. Want to guess what I had to pay for a single day from that?! It was a good lesson learned about closing directories! But, in those days, you could post a single photo to Usenet and get 50 signups to your paysite every day for a week or more. |
It was $100 for 2 years, and then it was lowered to $35/year and then competition entered which plumetted the rates, thankfully.

We also had to walk 12 miles in the snow with no shoes to the nearest datacenter. |

100$ domains rock
|
ahhh the days of $100 dollar domains ad $1500.00 a month for your own dedicated T1 because there were very little datacenters like today and none of them wanted adult so you had to have your own T-1 to do what you wanted.
I remember those days like it was 1994 - 1997 again :) |

I remember doing a few bucks a day then my site was on the Howard Stern Show and all of a sudden it was up to a hundred a day before dropping off a week or so later. BTW, nice to see you resurrected from the dead. |
