They did taste it. There was another news story for this... they said several workers took home bottle because of the unique taste. They enjoyed it.

And everyone else: the dead man didn't die in the barrel... he was already dead and his wife put him in the barrel to save on shipping him and to avoid paperwork. :) The rum preserved him for years.
