Tool fans in here...

am i the only one who is NOT liking this new album??? :( some of these songs are annoying to the core. wtf?? PLEASE someone tell me im just listening to the wrong songs or something.

on "Jambi", Maynard sounds like hes just some dude screaming into a mic. :Oh crap

and "Wings for Marie" sounds like some drunk homeless dude grabbed a guitar and a crackhead with bongo drums and then started taping their "song" on one of those really old 1980'ish sound recorders.

wtf?? :( :helpme

the only song i think even sounds like TOOL at all is "The Pot". :2 cents:

The Truth Hurts 05-04-2006 09:57 AM

you'd rather they put out a new album with same shit they've already done?

i hate it when people want bands to always sound the same..
listen to some AC/DC or CCR if you want every song to sound exactly the same.

ya I concur.. sorta.. it's like Tool is ripping off Tool... or something.

However, a lot of the new songs are in 5, which is really cool. :)

I like the pot, rosetta stoned, Right in Two, and vicarious a lot... the others... meh.

never been a fan but have over heard some of it in the office and have to say ill remain a non fan:2 cents:

I like it, think its great in fact!

Platinum Mike 05-04-2006 10:15 AM

It's called progression.
If they released material that sounds like the other TOOL albums what have they accomplished?
The new album (in my opinion) is solid. A few A Perfect Circle sounding songs but a great release nonetheless.
Maybe it's a grower for you?

James-AR 05-04-2006 10:15 AM

I was never a fan but have to say that the exposure I have had to that album may in fact make me a fan. I am most impressed with them. I like that they a fresh sound while staying true to their fans.

maybe. every other album, i "got it" RIGHT AWAY and fell in love with all the songs.

this cd doesnt have alot of lyrics and thats the main thing i loved about TOOL, was their lyrics. that, and the insanly brilliant music & layout of the combo of lyrics and music that just flowed perfectly together.

new album = big dissapointment

Morgan 05-04-2006 10:20 AM

i will use a screwdriver or a hammer on occaision. but i mainly just call my contractor to come when the serious tools are required. :2 cents:

candyflip 05-04-2006 10:21 AM

The Pot is my favorite tune on the album.

I think overall the album is a letdown, however 10,000 days(the song) is one of the best songs they've ever created at least musically.

The pot is honestly just stupid. It sounds to me like MJK in his lyrics got too much R&B mixed into his ipod or some shit.

Rosetta Stoned is really fucking out there, "Shit the Bed" is just not ideal tool lyrics.

On top of that you would think after 5 years they would have less filler junk & more music.

Overall the album feels too literal, which just is not Tool as I have known them since Undertow.

Platinum Mike 05-04-2006 11:31 AM

Have to be my favorite band of all time...problem is I think people take them too seriously.

"Rosetta Stoned is really fucking out there, "Shit the Bed" is just not ideal tool lyrics."

Bare in mind this is not new for TOOL to have lyrical content that is somewhat odd/humorous.
Example:
Stinkfist - Obvious what this is about.
Maynards Dick - Obvious as well.
Die Eier Von Satan - A Hitler sounding german chant about a cookie recipe.

Not as strong as the last 3 albums but it is great.
:thumbsup

I disagree. A good band is one that evolves on their own, not evolves in the same direction every other band is going. You look at bands like Pearl Jam who continue to keep their same amazing sound, but they can change and evolve as a group. Then look at U2, their old stuff was amazing but now they've converted their sound to "pop" because it sells, and they've lost a ton of loyal fans because of it.

octane 05-18-2006 06:50 PM

maybe you'll like it better when you hear the hidden track in it..

put 'viginti tres' first and 'wings for marie' second in a playlist on one player and '10,000 days' in another player, and play them at the same time. IT SYNCS!! and sounds sick. effing genius.

sfera 05-18-2006 06:50 PM

i havent gotten it yet, their last one was the best one yet, hope this one can live up to it

dial 05-18-2006 06:53 PM

I dont' care for it either, it sounds too cheesy, like shit i would hear on the radio already...nothing progressive or innovative about...almost liek they gave up and just did some normal sounding shit and didn't take anything to the next level like tool is known for

octane 05-18-2006 06:57 PM

nothing innovative!? look up three posts
