My house/family was hit by lightning!!

DAMN, someone needs to really do something about these damn storms...... they are getting DAMNED intense and brutal!!

Last night, we were sitting here, bracing ourselves for yet ANOTHER storm. I live in Kentucky and as many of you know, this whole region has been being hammered by horrendous storms for a good while now.

THIS one was nasty!! I still have my house and all, but it was pretty scarey. We had been watching the lightning and wind and were about ready to shut everything down and ride it out when a bolt of lightning made a damn direct hit and took out half the shit in my home.

My oldest son came running out of his room, he is 17 and doesn't get too excited about much, but he had the funniest look on his face, was shaking both of his hands!! He was holding an X-box controller and both of his hands were zapped.

My youngest son came running around the corner, he was at their Computer shutting it down and he got it in his mouse hand.....

Then here comes my poor husband and he was holding his face, he had been hit thru his monitor somehow, right in the mouth.

All of them landed in almost the same spot at the same time, with weird looks on their faces, while me and my youngest daughter just stood there looking at these three crazy people not knowing what the hell was going on.

I lost my router, cable modem, cables, the outlet outside that my booster plugs into and my booster, my kids monitor is shot, and we thought the TV in my room was shot. A couple of phones and other oddball shit that I am sure I haven't found yet!!

Everyone is ok here and we were lucky, VERY lucky, it could have been worse. But DAMN, someone needs to be calling someone and have them tone down on the damn storms already, these damn things are getting pretty scarey!!

Turn all wired electric stuff off when it's thunder :)

Kevsh 05-04-2006 06:35 AM

May I suggest moving out of Kentucky?
I know they have the blue grass, nice fried chicken and the Derby but ....

You think YOU were laughing? I nearly died when it was all said and done and they were ok. The fact that all males in the house were zapped and the females weren't hit, that was a riot on it's own. LMAO

And yes I am aware of turning things off, that's what we were doing.

As for kidding about calling someone? Oh good grief, of course I was kidding, I am female, not stupid. Everyone knows Mamma Nature doesn't have a phone................ I emailed her!!

Spunky, we hadn't ever heard of that either, but it damn sure zapped him.. right in the fucking mouth. LMAO

gooddomains 05-04-2006 06:38 AM

Ok now where the hell else am I gonna go? The coastlines have hurricanes and shit, Cali has earthquakes...... and GOD knows what I'd find anywhere else I would land. Something would find me, I am sure. LOL

Besides, the chicken is too damn good, how on earth do ya leave THAT? :Oh crap

I think that's the only reason I didn't get it, I have all of that on my system, and my daughter wasn't near anything electronic. But yes, we are working on equipping everything with that. We just never had storms this bad up til this year, but they are getting pretty bad.

pussyluver 05-04-2006 06:42 AM

Good to hear you're all alive! Maybe church this Sunday?? naw...

Move to Canada, nothing bad ever happens there.

seeric 05-04-2006 06:44 AM

Turning things off doesn't cut it. You have to unplug phone, cable, and AC cords when it's that bad.. Surge protectors wont protect anything during a direct hit. Glad everyone is ok. Acts of god suck for insurance purposes too..

Oh boy, I know that for sure!!
And we didn't just turn off the lights, silly. LMAO
We were watching this on the radar on TV and it just flew in out of nowhere, we seen it coming, but didn't realize how close it was til I had three men standing in front of me holding various body parts. lol

We are all really ok though, we can laugh about it today, but it was pretty damn scarey at the time. I despise storms with a bloody passion, so this didn't help matters one little bit.

gooddomains 05-04-2006 07:53 AM

take better care the next time, lighninmg can be very dangerous

Grapesoda 05-04-2006 09:06 AM

90% of the time our weather guys don't know fuckall about what they are talking about and when they warn us of severe storms, we get the ass end of them at best, they roll all around but rarely hit us. The ONE time they were right, we didn't pay too much attention to it. Right as we decided it was bad, that's when it was on top of us.

I watched lightning off in a distance out my window, and this bolt just slammed on top of us before we knew it was there.

Same thing happened to us when we lived in Arkansas, clear as a damn bell where we were, the storm was 45-50 miles away and some random bolt slammed us then too........ we seem to take more damage from storms that are miles off than the ones that are actually on top of us. lol

fetishblog 05-04-2006 10:24 AM

Bah. Unless you're in Oklahoma, you haven't experienced a real storm. We have the honor of having not only the largest and most brutal tornado in recorded history, but also the highest windspeed ever recorded at ground level. (318 mph). =) May 3rd, 1999. I did search and rescue for 24 hours immediately following that storm.

CDSmith 05-04-2006 10:26 AM

Tam, put a rubber dome over your house.

That'll solve your little sparks from the sky problem. :D

fetishblog. NO THANK YOU, I am horrified of storms enough as it is, I have seen your storms, and my husband used to drive thru them. I would have a damn stroke.
