Our severs versus "their" servers...!! LOL LOL

I always enjoy seeing pictures of competing datacenters and servers. This is a picture of one of our organized "pods" of 14 servers. The other photo, well, somewhere in there are the servers this potential client is renting from a competing provider.

:thumbsup

I really don't think any comment is necessary, do you? :winkwink:

I'd love the opportunity to win your business so if you are open to at least discussing it, let me know!

Cheers,

Brad

Brad can you get me on ICQ?

pornguy 05-03-2006 01:24 PM

Brad I need some hosting for some blogs. Make me an offer I can not refuse.

Hit me on ICQ if you want.

Yo Brad, if you want tickets to the Toronto show, hit me up on ICQ

HorseShit 05-03-2006 02:10 PM

what competing provider is that? if you don't want to say publicly, let me know on icq.

Brad Mitchell 05-03-2006 08:04 PM

Charles, yes! I will be in Toronto :)

Sparks thanks that always means a lot when I hear that.

MikiMunki I will get you on ICQ Thursday! I don't do much of that from home in the evenings...

Pornguy! You can count on that... I will contact you tomorrow also and make you an offer so irrisistable that I hope you cannot refuse!

Bawdy thank you for the compliment! We are proud that the rest of it is just as nice :)

NoWhErE that would be great! I have a room booked but didn't buy Corey and myself tickets yet for the show so that would be much appreciated!

Jdavis... Sure I'll show you the link if you ICQ me! It's not actually someone that I consider to be a competitor, that list is relatively small ;)

Have a great night everyone!

Brad

Hrmph, don't see what's to brag about, ill take a mid tower server over a bunch of cheap ass 1u's hugging together with a 90% chance of harddrive blowout anyday..

BluMedia 05-04-2006 01:23 AM

We have been with Brad and MojoHost for years. Top notch and the best host we have ever had. :thumbsup :thumbsup

I can't believe hosting has come to using $200 P4's for $150 a month ( the white ones) I mean who uses that junk :1orglaugh

Nice set up Brad!

You could use a bit of an education on several factors, I am sure. First, that those midtower cases are all poorly designed for cooling. Second, that any provider building "servers" in those cases is building desktops and not using server motherboards. The difference between a quality rackmount case and the cases you see in the other photos is the difference between paying $15-$30 for a case and power supply and paying $150+ for case and power supply. Amongst other problems, implementing cheap power supplys typically leads to higher failure rates due to poor voltage regulation and reliability - not to mention additional heat.

The servers that we build are at a premium because they use components engineered for reliability, performance and lower total cost of ownership over the life cycle. Those "cheap ass 1u's" likely cost twice the amount (or more) than the white box systems. They are a Supermicro engineered solution (case and motherboard) and are extremely efficient when it comes to cooling.

BluMedia - thanks for growing your business with us!

Casey, clearly you would win that competition! LOL LOL :)

Cheers,

Brad

This is the kind of technical question that perks my attention.

The white servers (many of the hosting companies use these rather than actual servers) are actually desktops. The difference between these and actual servers are as follows:

1. Desktop motherboards have printer ports on them. While this doesn't seem like a big deal to you these printer ports has a really slow baud rate. The fact that these printer ports cannot run at the same speed as the processors means other parts need to be put on these mother boards to slow the bus speed down.

Summary of #1 : You get slower speeds from the same size processor in a desktop model than in a server model.

2. Desktop motherboards have more bus ports (AGP, ISA, PCI) than any server board. Because these ports exist the processor and ram uses a certain amount of resources to see if anything is in these ports. Therefore only server motherboards should be used in high bandwidth sites. Less resources means faster speed to your user your trying to sell to.

3. Desktop Cases have very little cooling. These cases are designed to be used in a house where the house is kept at a comfortable temperature. Although most datacenters have big air conditioners your processor will suffer being in a desktop case rather than a server case.

Desktop cases all total usually have 3 fans for cooling.

Server cases have at least 5 to 10 fans for keeping things cool.

The smaller server cases filled with fans are easier to cool and keep your sites running.

So no bigger isn't always better.

Oh and on a side note I can verify that picture Brad showed of his servers and rack is actually his and real. (I racked some of those with corey, brad, and his staff)

Brad Mitchell 05-04-2006 08:35 AM

Now with servers out of the way I can give you more reasons to deal with mojohost than anybody else.

Brad :

1. Keeps an on hand staff 24/7 weekends and holidays also.

2. Maintains power control like I have not seen in any other data center. (I have been in many)

3. Has a monitoring system like no other host. If your stuff goes down sometimes MojoHost knows it before you.

4. Keeps more spare parts on hand than any other host I know. So if something major does happens (all parts die sometimes) he can get you up faster.

5. Believes in his hosting so much that nothing means more to him than making sure all his customers are happy and running.

I am making these statements as a friend and an ex employee of mojohost, also as a customer. If you need reliable hosting call Brad you won't get screwed around like other places.

that would be fdcservers.net. i've got a couple servers colo'd there

GonZo 05-04-2006 10:53 AM

Looks like Mr Cash's old colo'd mess.

Peaches 05-04-2006 11:19 AM

Brad's are done in organized pretty colors. He's the perfect metro :)

Brad Gosse 05-04-2006 11:20 AM

P2P ADS Uses Mojohost for a good chunk of our global server array.

I never have to worry about downtime or network issues with them.

If you need a host look no further!

^ more pics of their dc

It's pretty common to see feds walking out of there carrying servers, at least that's been my experience...

Spudstr 05-04-2006 01:44 PM

supermicro cases? what model number is that?

minusonebit 05-04-2006 01:51 PM

I dont care what the datacenter looks like. I just want my server to stay online. I "like" hosts that spend more time taking pictures of the datacenter and rearranging cables than making sure the core router hasnt been compromised. Well, not really. Oh yeah, and I dont pay more to host somewhere because the people in charge of the NOC give every other server a different colored patch cord.

AdultEUhost 05-04-2006 04:00 PM

looking good but i doubt if it will be easy to replace a utp cable there

sfera 05-04-2006 04:02 PM

Looks nice Brad but being down the street from you and hosting some servers there your attention to detail does not suprise me.

Brad Mitchell 05-04-2006 09:24 PM

AdultEUHost, actually, it's easier here than at any other setup - guaranteed. All of those runs are 3-4' gigabit cat6 wired locally to that rack in the adjacent internal or external network switch. The covers on the cable management on the sides and between the two switches snaps out for easy access. Every run is visible and replaceable within moments.

Spudstr, it is a variation of the SC512.

SiMple... Maybe... but most of yours are SCSI Dell Dual Xeons.

To those few that think none of us work here because we already made the patch cords pretty... that's just the dumbest thing I've ever heard. And suggesting that it is acceptable for any host to be slobs in the datacenter is naive. Cabling, cooling, power management, labeling - these aren't incidental issues to hosting, these are important when it comes to serving your customers properly.

Thats true, Brad. But you have it almost too neat in there... if I didnt know any better I would say that you have Monk in charge of your NOC or something. I dont know, not trying to trash your thread or nothing but it just seems like something like this shouldnt be held out as a main selling point. Aww, fuck me. Im a moron, what do I know. Maybe I am jealious I couldnt keep my rack like that back before I reduced down to the three boxes I have now. :(
