Depends on who you are targetting, but at that price $5 is still cheap.

David - PG 05-03-2006 11:27 AM

Does a Toyota sell better than a Porsche?

Snake Doctor 05-03-2006 11:31 AM

A cheaper trial will always get you more joins, but it won't always make you more money.
You have to experiment and find the "sweet spot"

CamJack 05-03-2006 11:33 AM

We noticed a 15% increase in trials going from $4.87 to $2.87 so I would say definately yes on the $1 joins.

WiredGuy 05-03-2006 11:34 AM

It will sell more trials joins, whether those trials recur for the full membership or not, I don't imagine it would be any better.

Do this experiment: promote the sites of Platinum Bucks - $35/trial or 80% , they have the option of $1 or $4.95 per trial for the same sites (papyout to webmasters is also a bit different), so you can see how it converts with one payment option or another ...

thricer 05-03-2006 11:47 AM

I think it's selling better...

Babs Bunny 05-03-2006 11:49 AM

For me the 1.00 joins have been a great success.

RayBonga 05-03-2006 11:53 AM

The real question is will it sell 5 times better?

Niki 05-03-2006 12:02 PM

the best trials are $29.95 ;)

Tom_PM 05-03-2006 12:08 PM

I usually advise people to consider their competition, consider the niche, and consider how much of a captive audience they have ie:traffic source.

sfera 05-03-2006 12:56 PM

i think it would sell better

MikesTraffic 05-03-2006 01:13 PM

All Depends on what you are pushing, top bucks seems to be one of the best companies out their right now

davethetruth 05-03-2006 01:18 PM

I've only gotten like 2 sales with $4.99 trials, but I've gotten 100's with the $1 or $1.99

That is nice increase. Hopefully they stay beyond the trial period.

djroof 05-03-2006 04:37 PM

I use 1$ trials and I am ok from sales!

My math brain my be shut off today but wouldnt that really become an overall dip in revenue.

For instance if you were doing 100 trials a day.
4.98 @ 100 a day = 498.00 per day in trials.
2.98 @ 115 a day = 342.70 per day in trials. (15% increase already added).

Resulting in a 68.8% loss.

Edit fuck, I put 4.98 and 2.98 instead of 4.87 and 2.87. Oh well you catch my drift either way.

bdld 05-03-2006 05:03 PM

ratios go WAY up by switching to $1 trials. i've seen it make a big difference.

Yep, agree with that.

I always had mixed results, and still switch between them every so often...

ANAL PASTE 05-03-2006 05:13 PM

I like free trials, thats why I promote Weg Cash

VicD 05-03-2006 05:16 PM

I like full joins, forget the trials :)

alan-l 05-03-2006 05:18 PM

no. maybe it could happen with some sites, but as a rule of thumb, 4.99 or $1 don't make a difference

I get your point, but you're missing the fact that trials will eventually recur, so 15% is good. ie, take those 100 sales per 29.95= 2995 as 115*2995= 3444.25

Still, in my experience when a horny surfer is looking for porn, the problem is to make him take the wallet off his pocket. Once you got him, $1 or $4.90 won't make a difference. Still, I'm all for the non trial unless your content is absolutely great. That from a site owner POV, of course. When it's another program's site, trials are great, and ALWAYS promote per SU :winkwink:

vanillaice 05-03-2006 06:00 PM

Hmm, for an affiliate, i've always wondered what would be teh best payout.

Using Pimproll because they have 3 different options...

If my math is right, you need:

A 10-12ish% increase in sales going from $4.99 to $2.99 to be worth it
A 22-24% increase in sales going from $2.99 to $1.00 to be worth it

Just using a small sample like 25 sales for $30 PPS you'll get $750
In order to get $750+ with the $27.5, you need 28 sales (12%)
In order to get $750+ with the $25, you need 31 sales (24%)

With a larger scale, the number lowers.. for example...

100 sales = $3,000
$2.99 option = 110 sales = $3,025 = 10%
$1.00 option = 120 sales = $3,000 = 20%

1,000 sales = $30k
$2.99 option = 1,091 sales = 9%
$1.00 option = 1,200 sales = 20%

So even in large numbers you'll still need to pull a 20% increase if you drop down $5 PPS with any drop.

If my math is wrong feel free to correct me, i'm curious to find the best options as well.
