Minimum word length for a search term = 4?

I tried to do a search on one word and the search function told me I needed at least 4. Weird. So, if I want to search for "elephant" I need 3 additional words(?). Somebody better get to work on that code, 'cause THAT is bullshit!

boneprone 05-14-2002 12:24 AM

why would you want to search for an elephant?

chodadog 05-14-2002 12:25 AM

No, the size of each word in the search must be at least 3 characters. Did you actually try and search for "elephant" ?

[perhaps elephantlist.nfo?

No, I just used that as an example, and since the error message incorrectly mentions "words" not "characters," I didn't realize it would search for "elephant." I thought I'd have to type something like "elephants with big dicks."

So, my mistake was believing the error message.

"elephant" is longer than 3 letters.... what's the problem?

Un-amputate your head, briefly. I pulled "elephant" out of the air because the ERROR MESSAGE (remember that?) says it has to be at least four WORDS long. Unless characters=words on your planet, the message is fucked. When I wrote the original message in this thread, I could no longer even remember what I was searching for, so I used "elephant" as a silly example. After all, if it's "four words" we're talking about, not four characters, what difference should it have made?

well, I just searched for "elephant" and didn't have any problems at all.... in fact, here's the results. But I still don't understand why you're searching for elephants, or why you can't search for them.... it only needs to be longer than 3 characters..... you don't have to search by phrase.... it's not required or anything....

boneprone 05-14-2002 10:28 AM

why elephant?

FATPad 05-14-2002 10:30 AM

Confirmed. "Elephant" has more than 4 characters and a search on "elephant" should not have returned an error message.

Might be a bug in the script.

Well, if that's really what you want, just look for "elephants with big dicks" in the first place! In fact, I think I see one over behind that bush...

Don't all elephants have big dicks?

Fletch XXX 05-14-2002 11:17 AM

Very sneaky indeed :winkwink:

I tried to search for a two word term and got this message just now -- oddly enough the message I got back ignored the first word entirely and looked at the second word which only contains 3 characters. What's up with that????

The search term you specified (xxx) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.
