Video question: Ripping DVDs.
What is the best program you can recomend for ripping DVDs? Is it possible to rip them in like 640x480 and still get good results? Starting another site soon, and I guess we need to evolve a little and give the members larger files...
|
I use dvd decrypter to grab the vob files and encode them with videocharge.
|
IMTOO dvd ripper
|
Right now we also use IMTOO Dvd ripper and encode it directly to Divx. Have to check out that DVD Encrypter thingy...
|
Use DVD Decrypter to get the copy of DVD on your hard drive and then AutoGordianKnot to encode to DIVX. All these software are freeware and work excellent. The result of the encoding to 640x480 depends on the bitrate you choose or the target file size. For 640x480 and 700 MB size adult movie will look great up to 2 hours of length. Simply each minute for 640x480 DIVX encoding must be 6-10 MB per minute.

I'd say anything over 1500 kbps is overkill for net stuff. Unless you REALLY want to give them DVD quality, then by all means, go for the 700 mb files |

Especially if you are going to be streaming it.... |
If you buy the content from us you will get them in the formats you want ;)
And if you need help you can contact me and I will have one of my editors help you out:thumbsup |
Videocharge is beyond a shadow of a doubt the best program for ripping, encoding in multiple formats, making screencaps, watermarking, chopping clips and even uploading... all with one click. Ya can't beat that.
|
I use DVDFab Decrypter to get the vob files on my hard drive.
I use a Perl script which uses mencoder to rip perfect divx files from the vob files. :) |
Is it much better to encode from vob-files than ripping and encoding it directly from the DVD?
|
1. SmartRipper (to extract VOB files)
2. DVD2AVI (to create .d2V file for video and .wav for audio) 3. TMPGEnc (to encode .d2V and .wav to MPEG-1/MPEG-2) And MPEG-1/MPEG-2 can be compressed with DivX later. I tried few others but with these I get the best quality. |
Like I have said before Anna >>> AVS Video Converter + DVD encrypter :) :thumbsup

Yes, one click. It can also chop it by scene automatically and upload it to your server via ftp in the same process. |
chupachups: AVS Video Converter looks like a nice program, but VideoCharge actually seems better when just comparing on their websites. Have you tried both?
Also, to all of you who encode from the vob-file, is there any particular advantage of doing it this way? Thanks for all your answers :) |
A little evening bump :winkwink:
|
DVD Shrink + AutoGK works for me

Actually I have not but, from all the softs I have tested, AVS has proved itself to be the most reliable and versitile one. On encoding from the vob file; it would mean you avoid any quality loss on the way. Generally though, like someone said, I would not use divx/xvid (f.ex) for my clients. Go with any mpeg or wmv. |

Thanks for your reply! We do offer wmvs too, but only in a lover bitrate and resolution. Felt that Divx gave the best quality and smallest size, and it's pretty well spread among the different paysites I've seen out there. But I guess for the new site we have to start offering a larger wmv file too :) |

I downloaded the trial and it seems like a very good program, although a bit complicated ;) I guess it gets easier once you learn it properly. |
