Open letter to ICANN
Just sent this to them:
Dear Reader, As a parent of two children and an Internet marketer for close to 10 years I am writing this to state my objections to the proposed .xxx tld. Those in favor of .xxx like to use words and phrases such as "voluntary" and "protect the children" in an attempt to fool people into supporting this notion. The problem being that as long as it is voluntary there is no way that it can protect anyone, and secondly, setting up a tld that labels a site as being adult does nothing to protect children. It only helps the curious to find it should they desire. The only way that a tld can even attempt to protect anyone is to make it mandatory, except you then have the problem of enforceability along with freedom of speech issues. If .xxx becomes mandatory it would only be enforceable in the USA, and that only insures that the sites that we must truly be concerned with are located off-shore. The cliche' that "if guns are made illegal, only criminals will have guns" can not help but come to mind in this situation. The issue of protecting children from porn is a serious one, but it is one that must be dealt with by parents. As a parent I would much rather see a .kids tld created so that I know there is a tld that my children can visit with no concerns about what they might view. Creating a voluntary or mandatory .xxx tld does nothing to ease my concerns as a father, however, as a businessman and American citizen it does cause concerns about First Amendment rights. I can foresee ISP's blocking tlds by default. I can foresee drawn out and expensive litigation over domain ownership rights. ICM Registry did not come up with .xxx as a way to protect children, but as a way to make money. They admit this is a for profit venture. I have no problem with someone trying to make a dollar, but when it steps on my rights to conduct business I do. Lloyd Brown CEO/President - SPP Productions, Inc. Director of Business Development - Got Web Host ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I suggest everyone take the time to send their objections to [email protected] or forever hold your piece. |

Yes, sorry about the incorrect email address, I relied on "someone else's" information.
You will get a confirmation email from ICANN, so make sure to confirm you sent it if you want it to be taken into consideration. |
i say lets all just go mainstream

We need emails people. If this passes it is your fault for leaving it up to other people to defeat. If you have zero writing skills please feel free to cut and paste the following:
Dear Reader, I am against the implementation of the .XXX tld. Thank you for your consideration. YOUR NAME YOUR COMPANY NAME (please replace YOUR NAME and/or YOUR COMPANY NAME with your name and/or company name) |

The above will certainly work, but if they get alot of messages saying the same as a form letter, them may dismiss them all as just being a form, or a bot doing it. Add your own personal comments to the template above. Paysite programs could contact their affiliates to get involved and write their own thoughts. You email your viewpoint on .XXX to: [email protected] Both paysites and affiliates are affected by .XXX... .first thing will be your wallet, when you shell out $75/domain.. yes, think about how many domains you have.... and then think about the LAWS being proposed to make it mandatory. The comments by some .XXX supporters that .kIDS is not a good idea, because it means others will have to pay for .KIDS, instead of making the "pornographers" who make more money, have to pay for .XXX The ignorance in this thinking, is that .XXX would actually protect kids.. which it won't.. at all..... .KIDS would 100% protect kids. So make your thoughts known.. contact your affiliates to get onboard. email to: [email protected] Fight the rabble-rousing! |

You know how many forms I have received with YOUR NAME HERE or YOUR DOMAIN HERE? |
Everyone should be sending e-mails!!
Good one BD! |
Thanks, BD.
So far, there are still less than 100 emails sent to ICANN--shouldn't EVERYONE send one (see KRL's posting). Motivate your affiliates and members, as the ICANN meeting is less than one week away. See postings thus far at this link http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-tld-agreement/ Dave |
