How many webmasters actually read the TOS before signing up to...

... an affiliate program? Just wondering how many actually read the TOS when clicking the box that says yes you've read and understand the TOS.

baddog 05-02-2006 12:08 PM

I doubt there are many.

After Shock Media 05-02-2006 12:09 PM

I always do but I really think I may be in the minority.

WiredGuy 05-02-2006 12:10 PM

I print a copy and archive a digital copy just in case one day they try doing something shady on me. These are just as enforceable as signing a written contract, so I certainly read them. But like mentioned above, I doubt this is the norm. I imagine most people just check the box and signup without reading.

I learned the hard way about 5 years ago. Now I read everything, even who designed the site, who hosts it, etc.

G-Rotica 05-02-2006 12:25 PM

there's a tos?

Dirty Dane 05-02-2006 12:40 PM

Always. And take the copy just in case.

andrej_NDC 05-02-2006 12:42 PM

the question is, how many affiliate programs read the TOS before they copy and add it to their site :1orglaugh

okdesign 05-02-2006 12:46 PM

I always read TOS.

thricer 05-02-2006 12:47 PM

I always read them....

sex69 05-02-2006 01:03 PM

I always go thru the TOS, site portfolio, programs, etc. and if I find anything suspicious just don't signup.

Linkster 05-02-2006 01:07 PM

Id say based on the amount of threads on this board where people whine about things an affiliate program does - that is usually something covered in their TOS - not many.

tolik 05-02-2006 01:08 PM

always. also i checking paysites galleries etc.

because i have about 30 programm in my wasted time list - people who putting teen content at mature fhgs for example and other clueless people who in wrong business.

SomeCreep 05-02-2006 01:09 PM

A very small percentage of webmasters read them.

Tom_PM 05-02-2006 01:10 PM

I absolutely always do, no kidding. It's just one of those things. First I take the sponsor programs tour, and check the sites and talking points, then head for the TOS. And those annoying ones that are placed inside an un-resizable tiny window? Select all, copy, paste. I read those the most carefully, lol.
Adult programs are much shorter usually than mainstream.

myjah 05-02-2006 01:14 PM

Alot of affiliates DON'T read them at all...I don't know if it's a majority but I'm always shocked to find out that someone didn't read thru them before promoting any program.

vantage 05-02-2006 01:19 PM

I read and print it.

Goblin 05-02-2006 01:26 PM

I have seen this many times....

i read the tos

u-Bob 05-02-2006 04:29 PM

I read them, save a copy to a sqlite db, make a printout, highlite some stuff, make notes,...

rowan 05-02-2006 04:41 PM

I usually read but I don't save. I wish I had now, I'm in a dispute with Stormpay who quietly changed their T&C after I signed up, but I have no solid proof.

polish_aristocrat 05-02-2006 04:48 PM

i read and analysed them carefully in 2002, before i joined the industry

then i realised how the industry works and that there's no need to read them

in general, everyone is good ppl so the whole thing is about grabbing linking codes and sending traffic
and then there are also the few shady companies who even if you dont break any TOS they can still ignore you and dont pay you etc

and since there are hundreds of sponsors nowadays instead of a few big ones, then everyone copies the TOS from each other anyway
