Legal/Business thread: Can I use these non-watermarked images for my own sites?

Ok, I am working on a mainstream desktop image/wallpaper site and I have a huge collection of high quality images that I have downloaded from various torrent sites. None of the images have watermarks on them so I have no clue who produced them. Can I use them on my wallpaper sites, legally, or would I be setting myself up for future C&D letters?

absolutely.... use them all.

BlingDaddy 05-01-2006 06:17 PM

I would go with the future C&D letters.

MetaMan 05-01-2006 06:17 PM

you have got to be kidding?

here's a good solution - use the images you've collected on your wallpaper site, photographers always like their images to be seen - when you get the C&D letters scan those into your computer and make wallpapers out of those too.

Yeah, I would too, but other people are using them on their sites - lots of people, and they have been for many years. So I figured what the fuck.

And you joined gfy in 2002.. omg it is sad.

There are wallpaper communities out there and you can contact the creators and ask them to submit their walls to your site... IF the image they have been using for their wallpaper is not copyrighted. Most are.

You can make a deal with some wallpaper makers and buy from them and help them sell their wps in hi rez as TIFF on cds etc. You can send traffic their way if they have their own sites. Te owners of wallpaper sites have usually an agreement with the wallpaper artists.

But never use th downloaded wallpapers or you get caught fast.

go for it, but probably a good idea to retein a decent lawyer before proceeding...

Nismo... you have 3637 posts on GFY. You obviously know what a C & D letter is. Is this "legal/business" thread supposed to be serious??
