Gonzales: Gov't "explicit labels" on EVERY adult webpage

Haven't seen this posted to GFY yet (apologies if its a dupe)...

Full text here.

The part I found most interesting:

"Sure enough, not long after Gonzales concluded his speech, the Department of Justice started to fill in the details about the "legislative package" Gonzales would like Congress to enact:

Web site operators posting sexually explicit information must place official government warning labels on their pages or risk being imprisoned for up to five years, the Bush administration proposed Thursday.

A mandatory rating system will "prevent people from inadvertently stumbling across pornographic images on the Internet," Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said at an event in Alexandria, Va.

The Bush administration's proposal would require commercial Web sites to place "marks and notices" to be devised by the Federal Trade Commission on each sexually explicit page. The definition of sexually explicit broadly covers depictions of everything from sexual intercourse and masturbation to "sadistic abuse" and close-ups of fully clothed genital regions.

"I hope that Congress will take up this legislation promptly," said Gonzales, who gave a speech about child exploitation and the Internet to the federally funded National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The proposed law is called the Child Pornography and Obscenity Prevention Amendments of 2006."

I don't mind doing something like that for the right cause.. If it's something along the lines of how ICRA works.

However if it's used to filter adult material at the ISP level then it's a big issue. I'm betting it will be fought because of that very reason.

So if the intent was right then I wouldn't mind doing it, however from this Admin and that DOJ I doubt the intent on the positive side for us.

MrJackMeHoff 05-01-2006 05:34 PM

Yeah that'll stop them damn kids.. We know how well they listen to warnings.. Wtf is this supposed to accomplish?

Furious_Male 05-01-2006 05:37 PM

I am curious as to how he plans on enforcing this world wide.

Notice the increase in TV shows covering online predators and exploiting children. Also notice his timing and where he made these remarks. They will spin it all together and of course lump us into it and pass this forward. Specially since we really have NOBODY that is organized enough to have any press ability to get out our views.

Precisely...its the same old story every time.

Playing bait & switch with the public. The time-honored tradition of attacking ALL of the adult industry by lumping us together with child pornography.

But as furiousmale said above - how the hell would they propose on enforcing this on a global basis? Sure, they can implement all they want...but the rest of the world will hand them a "fuck you" and go about business as usual.

I'm all for anything that'll help irradicate child porn - but this latest stunt isn't really aimed at that. Its merely another guise by Bush and his administration to cause us further grief and concern.

They do not care about the rest of the world right now. Local busts mean presstime and money. Also got to love it being reelection time soon.

Make the people as scared shitless about as much as possible and it is a hell of a lot easier to take stuff away for their own good.

Very, very true.

We can see the pattern constantly these days.

DaddyHalbucks 05-01-2006 06:36 PM

It's again shrouded in "child pornography and obscenity prevention.."

What a crock of crap!

:(

Sinstar 05-01-2006 06:40 PM

I don't mind putting stuff on entry pages, but every page that contains content? wtf?

chase 05-01-2006 06:44 PM

No one thinks that it's bizarre to include fully clothed genital regions?

The entire "family values" movement is as close to the Christian's anti-christ as it gets....it looks wonderful to God-fearing people, but it's just a tool to herd the sheep into giving up their rights.

Yeah I thought that was bizarre. It seems like America hates internet porn (love to view it though). I see this all the time when recruiting. If Playboy, Maxim, Victoria Secrets, etc. wanted to shoot some girl, all her friends/family/pastor would be for it. Her girlfriends would be so envious. But some porn, or even NON NUDE, webmaster wants to shoot her, and pay her damn good money... its morally wrong.

L-Pink 05-01-2006 06:59 PM

"Just say NO to porn" Worked for drugs .....

Didnt the US decide to keep the internet naming system under US control recently?

It's not exactly up to the US as to whether they control the internet naming system, tho they are free to "decide" whatever they like within the US.

Now, - this is only my :2 cents: worth and a "slight rant" but with far more than reasonable cause.

I am getting totally pissed off hearing the constant spewage of the US admin on their plans for the adult net business and the sheer hypocracy of numerous politicians from that country as regards the "protection of minors".

Over half a decade ago this current saga was predictable and all our servers were moved out of the US, not because of any "contentious" material or anything hardcore in nature, - but solely because US laws were not laws worth operating under.

At the same time, there was, and still is, complete support for a system not unlike 2257 original version. However, since this law was never enforced in the US - it is pointless.

Irrespective of any laws created within the US - we sure as hell will not be paying the slightest attention and operate under the laws of the countries from which we trade or reside. These laws are generally 20 times more sane and do actually have sensible legislation for child protection, but without the political bullshit, contraversy and manipulation.

Bottom line... and a "personal message" to Gonzales and all who swim with the US DOJ bullshit (including the Whitehouse) - Go fuck yourself, - simply because you are irrelevant to the world and a cancer on the landscape as far as child protection is concerned.

Of course its bizarre - beyond ludicrous...which is partially why I included that segment in the original post.

So...in this scenario - will every Hollywood movie also be required to issue similiar warnings any time they feature a closeup of a "fully clothed genital region" in a movie?

TV shows? Magazines - both mainstream and adult?

Of course not.

Its all such utter bullshit. It truly is. It never ceases to amaze me what these colossal jackasses dream up next. Its as if they're constantly trying to outdo the last fucked up stunt they've pulled.

Fuck Bush.

Fuck Gonzales.

Fuck the religious radicals, fundamentalists and their ilk.

Fuck'em all. :boid:boid:boid
