.mpg files are playing in my Quicktime Player???

When I click a .mpg movie link, it comes up in my Quicktime player instead of the Windows Media Player (just started doing that for some reason). How do I correct this so that the movie will play in my WMP player?

hmm... find a .mpg file on your computer and right click on it! Then click open with... Click Windows Media Player, and mark the "always open in this program"

Hope that works

hmmm - that almost worked. It would allow me to watch the file on my computer with Windows Media Player but when I click a link on page with a .mpg file, it opens up Quicktime. I've set the quicktime prefs and the Windows Media Prefs but that doesn't seem to be working? Dis' shit is fucked up :1orglaugh

Anymore ideas anyone? I'm using Firefox!

uninstall QT! Click a link and hopefully it will open WMP. Then install QT again, and during the install, makes sure you get the settings right! I bet there is a new version of QT since your last install! :)

Tell WM to take back that extension from QT

Open WM - click on tools and then choose File Types and find the extensions you want WM to open with and click on em'

my computer
tools
folder options
file type
find extensions which have quicktime logo beside them and change the ones you want to play with windows media player by clicking the change button and selecting window media player.

Or you could reinstall windows media player and when microsoft asks you if you want to be the default player say yes. Then microsoft will take every file association back.

I have had this problem too and the thing is .mpg are set to be opened with WM Player yet still open with Quicktime. Only files Quicktime is set to open are Quicktime files like .mov

the problem is people don't realize that there are other relay types in the master list (ones that allow embedded playing of mpgs) you need to change all of these too.

easiest way is to take advantage of microsofts "borg ness" and let them take the default status on all of them.

You can do it manually thou.
