I'm rude to old people; does that make me a bad person? (POLL)

This post is inspired by the four things that guy had to endure today...

Being a customer in line behind some old woman counting her exact change is very frustrating. Just because you're retired, you rotten-mouthed, smelly old hahahaha, doesn't mean nobody else has anything to do today. It's fucking wednesday, not the weekend.

Frustrating as that is, try being the cashier. In fact, try working at "a nation-wide, popular electronics shop" (Take a pic... there's really only one) and dealing with these annoying coffin-dodgers all morning. Try installing easily-installed batteries into simple electronics, like a wallclock, or a walkman.

Have you ever tried explaining the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R to an almost-dead, old man? I have. Daily. Sometimes twice. Bad? Yes, but not nearly as bad as explaining how to transfer one's vinyl collection to cds. Sometimes I contemplate telling the people that there is no way to do it, but I always end up explaining that they can use their computer yada yada yada.

Does that suffice? OH NO! They want DEMONSTRATIONS. They come back, too. Oh yes, they come back a few days later and tell you that they; A) forgot how to do it; or, B) it didn't work.

Sometimes I want to tell them that I'm not a technician, and that even if I was, I wouldn't give a sweet shit, and still wouldn't want to help them. How about you fuckers buy something instead of wasting my time?

Try dealing with old people, and ONLY old people, and their slow, "WHAT DID YOU SAY" deafness. FUCKING DRIVES ME CRAZY... IM ALMOST YELLING AT YOU AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN TWO FEET AWAY. MAYBE YOU SHOULD THROW YOUR STUBBORN PRIDE IN THE GARBAGE (NEXT TO YOUR USED DEPENDS), AND INVEST IN SOME HEARING AIDS.

Sometimes, I'm deliberately rude to old people, especially if they're slow or hard of hearing. Sometimes I cut them off and huff and puff if they're walking too slow. Sometimes I utter audible comments.

Does that make me a bad person, or does it just make me angry?

It makes you unwise. Learn from them, they've been around the block.

Just do what I do when i'm feeling frustrated

run into a bingo hall full of senior citizens and start throwing haymakers

MrQ 04-29-2006 09:46 PM

Fucking bingo halls. It would be a breeding ground for seniors if they were still even able to breed.

GRRRrrrrrr...

SleazyDream 04-29-2006 09:46 PM

I try and be as nice as I can to old people that I meet because for some reason I feel like if I'm a dick to them when I'm in their shoes some day I'll get really bad care at the old folks home...karma I guess...

MrQ 04-29-2006 09:48 PM

There are limits to patience. Patience is what I had when I first started dealing with them.

Dealing with them every day, all day, raped that patience from me.

Old people should have to retake their drivers test when they hit 70 and every 5 years from that point on

Faster isn't necessarily better. Besides, I never said that I was BETTER.

I'm sure if they had the energy, they'd be online bitching about the young kids today and how everything has to be done so fast and without any care or attention.

I'd say every year, because even in one year an old person's health/vision can show serious changes to their detriment.

I agree in concept, though.

I'm sure someone would bitch that it's unfair, and discrimination.

Some old goat about 90 almost got me into a major accident. Pulling in to a shopping center entrance on a right turn and he decides to stop suddenly and leave my ass in oncoming traffic. Then the dumb fuck puts it into reverse and nearly went into my hood.

After blowing my horm profusely, I got out of the car and started yelling at him to move forward and he started cursing back at me with gross loads of spit and saliva dripping out of the sides of his mouth. I told him he shouldn't even be driving at his age. He gave me the finger rolled up his window and finally drove forward, while a whole bunch of cars now stuck in a line by this birdbrain were blowing their horns for him to move also.

See? They should only be allowed to drive mon-fri 11am-3pm, and sat-sun 8am-5pm.

MrQ 04-29-2006 10:06 PM

Correction Notice:

I recscind the comment about restricting them to certain times --they shouldnt be allowed to drive on weekends.
