Breaking News - CNN Live TV - IWantU.com

"Something about a practical joke turning someone's life around"

Some fake profile stuff.

It is going to be on in a couple of minutes.

TheSenator 04-28-2006 08:24 AM

Cyber Stalkers

Someone made a profile with her picture and real info.

Strangers were showing up at her door looking for sex.

Pornwolf 04-28-2006 10:00 AM

Oh shit, this is not good for dating sites.

Why would it be bad for dating sites?

Just one of those things that happens and nothing can be done about it.

How many times have you seen a girls name & address in guys bathrooms stalls?...same thing.

madawgz 04-28-2006 11:16 AM

Pete-KT 04-28-2006 11:17 AM

Well the way I see it, it is free advertising for us. :)

Unfortunately though, in such cases ther isn't much any site can do - unless they only post 100% verified (passport, driver's license) profiles. However I think we all know that would reduce members on these kinds of sites dramatically.

On that note, we were just discussing the idea of launching a Profile verification site/service - good timing I guess :upsidedow

I somewhat agree that any publicity is good publicity, but it's good to see a story like this where no one got hurt. I just don't understand where her address came from. I can't speak 100% for everybody- but I know must dating sites (let alone us in the adult niche) scrub profiles for physical addresses and telephone #s.

If you ask me I'd like to see some more scrutiny come down on myspace. You've got sites like us, (the adult dating niche) jumping through hoops, working with the ASACP, dedicateing an entire department of people to trying to keep surfers safe and then you look over at the mainstream and you've got a free for all with 14 yr old kids flashing their asses and posting what school you can find them at. Jeezus.

ShellyCrash 04-28-2006 02:48 PM

Let me clairify my stance- leave Lightspeed Steve alone- go after Rupert Murdock. His girls only look 16, myspace girls really are

gooddomains 04-28-2006 11:37 PM

great advertisement

I agree...i spend hours a day taking out phone #'s, addresses, anyone that doesn't look 18.,....then you actually have to read each profile to make sure they dont say, "im really seventeen"....try approving 500 profiles a day & reading them all

sites like myspace, etc. have ZERO checking....THEY are the problem

And no one cares, because they are " Mainstream " and Not porn.

Goes right along with the High Fashion Models. They are 15 and 16 sometimes, and have photos taken in see through clothes, and that is Not C p. it is high fashion. But for any one to take a photo of thier 3 year old in the bathtub playing in the water, and you will get life.

Nudity is not porn, nudity is not porn, nudity is not porn. Myspace should not be shut down just like adult sites should not be shut down. To even suggest so is ludacris. If we start making it impossible to join sites because someone MIGHT abuse it there won't be a site on the planet that has any user submitted content. Myspace is nothing more than the aol chatrooms of today.

Nudity is not porn. I swear this industry is it's on worst enemy.

RayBonga 04-29-2006 03:20 AM

I think that's some great publicity, a lot of people will still be visiting the sites.

You only have to hope that it goes unnoticed by those crazy Bush followers.

A girl's name and number on a bathroom stall is nowhere NEAR the same class as posting someone's personal information online.. Are you mental? Ever heard of identify theft? Fraud? Murder? Stalking? Not even in the same category.
